Yard Helper I/II
This position combines responsibility for maintaining log deck sprinkler systems with general maintenance and operational support.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Sprinkler System Maintenance:
Maintaining all log deck sprinkler systems, including monitoring pump stations and the diversion inlet.
Daily maintenance of sprinkler systems, requiring safe movement and manipulation of sprinkler pipes on log decks.
Log Deck Safety and Operations:
Recognizing and addressing hazards on the log deck, such as loose bark and unstable logs.
Assisting log scalers with taping loads of logs.
Dust Control and Plant Maintenance:
Driving a manual transmission water truck for dust control throughout the plant area.
Weighing log trucks using certified scales and cleaning debris from the scale platform.
Maintaining the landscape water system and well pump oil reservoir level.
Cleaning the office and maintenance areas, including weed eating around the company location.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Safely operating a quad (ATV) as needed.
Operating a chainsaw to buck logs.
Performing basic mechanical tasks to assist with water truck and other equipment maintenance.
Teamwork and Communication:
Learning and assisting with other crew responsibilities to ensure efficient daily operations.
Inventorying the tool room and communicating supply needs to the supervisor.
Communicating effectively with crew members, supervisors, and the maintenance shop.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
Working in various weather conditions, including hot and cold environments.
Performing physical activities such as kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, crouching, and reaching, with a full range of motion.
Walking long distances on uneven surfaces, including log decks.
Lifting, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 50-100 lbs.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Ability to safely drive a manual transmission vehicle.
Commitment to working safely and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings.
Physical ability to perform tasks requiring kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, crouching, reaching, and a full range of motion of limbs and neck.
Capacity to work in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures.
Proficiency in performing pre and post-operational checks on equipment.
Ability to check and maintain landscape water systems and well pump oil reservoir levels.
Eagerness to learn new responsibilities and contribute to the crew's daily operations.
Ability to inventory supplies and communicate needs to the supervisor.
Strong communication skills for interacting with crew members, supervisors, and the maintenance shop.
Physical fitness to walk long distances on uneven surfaces, including log decks.
Competence in operating a chainsaw safely.
Strength to lift, push, and pull 50-100 lbs.
Availability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
