About the role:
As the Lead Grant Development Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing grant-funded activities at CSU Chico. Reporting to the Manager of Grant Development and Pre-Award Services, you will guide faculty and project directors through the entire grant and contract proposal process, from initial concept to successful submission. In the last year, the team successfully secured over $60M in external funding and processed over 500 proposals. You will work with a variety of external funding sources, including federal, state, public, private, and non-profit agencies, ensuring that proposals align with funding regulations and maximize the university's research potential.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $85,400 – $108,045 based on experience.
What You’ll Do:
Team Leadership and Support:
Lead, train, and mentor a team of four Development professionals, managing workload distribution and fostering a collaborative, solution-oriented environment.
Serve as the primary lead for managing Chancellor’s Office IRG opportunities.
Provide leadership in resolving challenges and identifying process improvements for team efficiency.
Grant Proposal Management:
Partner with university faculty and project directors to guide the entire grant development process, from idea generation to final submission.
Offer expert advice on grant strategies, funding opportunities, and agency requirements.
Oversee the preparation and review of complex, multi-year budgets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional and agency standards.
Process Optimization:
Continuously improve proposal development systems and procedures, including enhancing Cayuse management, campus outreach efforts, and service visibility.
Implement new strategies to streamline the submission process using specialized pre-award software.
Collaboration and Communication:
Coordinate with internal and external collaborators to secure all necessary documentation and approvals for proposal submissions.
Build and maintain relationships with funding agencies to enhance the university's grant potential.
Outreach and Training:
Develop and lead outreach initiatives, including workshops, presentations, and funding search training for university stakeholders.
Communicate funding opportunities through newsletters and other channels.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Work closely with other Chico State Enterprises administrative departments on policy and procedure development, ensuring a seamless and efficient grant development environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
At least 5 years of experience performing directly related work is required.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills and extensive Excel experience for budgeting and Reporting.
Experience with grant development or grant administration, preferably in a higher education environment.
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience, and strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand and explain funding agency requirements and federal regulations, and service orientation.
Experience developing and delivering outreach and services promotion that may include research development activities, presenting to large and small groups, and methods of information distribution.
Requires computer competency, preferably in a PC environment and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; an ERA system such as Cayuse; and database searching.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree and/or designation as a Certified Research Administrator is preferred.
Strong preference in a university or higher education environment.
