TIRE / MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

(Reports to Shop Manager)

Qualities: Lube/Tire Technicians are best equipped to succeed with the following qualities/qualifications:

- The ability to perform required tasks of repair and service independently, under pressure, and as a valued member of a team working toward common goals.

- The ability to communicate detailed written explanations to the Shop Manager/Service Writer.

- The desire to exceed industry standards and receive continuous industry certified education.

- The commitment to work towards ASE Certification within two years of being hired.

- The ability to use and operate a tire changer, wheel balancer, tire repair stand, tire pressure monitoring reset tool, floor jacks, oil drain/fill equipment and a variety of air powered tools.

- The ability to lift, handle and maneuver a variety of items that may weigh over 100 pounds.

- The ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week on a regular basis.

Areas of Responsibility:

1. Keeping work area clean, organized and safe; following all company policies and procedures.

2. Perform service and repairs for all makes/models/years depending on experience and education.

3. Possession of all the necessary tools required to efficiently perform duties.

4. Maintain minimum production levels as outlined in the Technician Productivity Bonus Schedule.

Daily/Weekly Duties (or as required):

1. Keep shop equipment and tools clean and in good condition. Immediate response to cleaning spills.

2. Perform Courtesy Checks on all vehicles.

3. Assist with equipment maintenance and empty oil drains.

4. Remove old tires from shop and stack in tire trailer.

5. Keep ample supplies of wheel weights, valve stems, repair materials and oil filters on hand.

6. Review tire and lube supplies - reorder as needed.

7. Assist other technicians as needed.

Monthly/Quarterly/Annually Duties:

1. Monthly: Thoroughly clean your tools and service bay.

2. Quarterly: Review goals with Shop Manager and attend quarterly all-staff and shop meetings.

3. Annually: Review performance, goals and compensation with Shop Manager and General Manager.

Minimum Standard of Performance

Fundamentals: Prior to performing any procedure, the Lube/Tire Technicians have a clear and documented understanding of the customer complaint/request and that the necessary permission to perform the work has been granted. Appropriate tire type, tire size, oil and filter specific to the vehicle must be verified. A vehicle inspection is to be completed on all vehicles regardless of the service requested. Before recommending additional services, the Lube/Tire Technician must assure that the customer complaint has been identified and addressed and that a journeymen technician confirms the recommendations. Seat covers and floor mats are to be installed before any work is performed.

Documentation: All diagnostic procedures, findings, recommendations and services performed must be properly noted and documented in compliance with procedures outlined by management. The Lube/Tire Technician must confirm that vehicle details on the work order match the vehicle. If additional information is needed, he/she must document details not on the work order and verify/complete any vehicle details needed to order parts and perform repairs. For example: mileage, license plate, correct VIN#, make, model and motor size.

Final Test Drive: All vehicles are to be rechecked to assure the service was done in a professional manner, maintenance lights reset, oil change reminder stickers attached and the vehicle has been cleaned and readied for customer delivery.
