Fleet mechanics perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, buses, and heavy machinery. Their responsibilities may include:
-Inspecting: Looking for issues and determining the extent of needed repairs
-Repairing: Performing general repairs and overhauls, as well as minor repairs
-Adjusting and replacing: Replacing parts like belts, hoses, valves, and alternators
-Tuning: Using testing equipment to tune engines
-Lubricating: Checking and refilling gearboxes and crankcases with lubricants
-Transporting: Moving vehicles to designated locations for maintenance or repairs
-Operating equipment: Using hand and power tools, as well as auxiliary equipment that's attached to the vehicles
-Documenting: Preparing reports and records of the work that was done
-Fleet mechanics may also need to be available for on-call work. They should be physically fit enough to perform the job, which can include standing, bending, climbing, and crouching for long periods of time. They should also be able to tolerate extreme temperature changes and lift heavy equipment
Candidate must have at least 5 years’ experience
