Transportation Services is currently seeking NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) Drivers to join our team of exceptionally skilled and committed non-medical emergency transportation specialists.
AGE REQUIREMENT:
Please note that our company insurance policy requires our drivers to be 23 years of age or older.
BASIC JOB PURPOSE:
The NEMT Driver will operate company wheelchair vehicles rendering service for the transport of members in a safe, timely, and courteous manner. Communicates with and assists members; perform other related duties as required.
This position reports directly to the Fleet Supervisor.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Able to operate vehicles and sit for extended periods of time.
Able to stand, kneel, bend, lift, squat, pull, and push members frequently.
Able to adapt to weather, road, outdoor conditions.
Able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekend.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Provides safe and timely transportation for our consumers to and from facilities and/or home in a timely manner.
Ability to load and unload a member on a wheelchair safely into and out of a wheelchair vehicle with a REAR ramp.
Demonstrates patience, empathy, and compassion for member needs and conveys a willingness to assist, as needed.
Performs “Door to Door” service, with ambulatory and wheelchair and gurney services.
At the start of shift, reviews schedule for accuracy, special requirements, and timely pickup and notifies dispatch and leadership if adjustments are recommended to complete the transport without issue.
Completes assigned schedule daily which may include additional unplanned trips or special request.
Accurately updates the status for all transports in real time through to our dispatch.
Ensures assigned vehicles are clean, free of damage, maintained, and in good working condition. Communicates defects to leadership immediately.
Sanitizes and cleans vehicles by using company cleaning supplies and tools.
Completes daily vehicle inspections and checklists at the beginning and at the end of each shift.
Maintains clear communication between Members, Dispatch and Facilities.
Communicates vehicle incidents and accidents to leadership when they are immediately discovered.
Acts with integrity and respect towards all coworkers, supervisors, vendors, members, and other third parties not associated with our service but encountered while on shift and providing services for the company (other drivers on the roads, pedestrians, etc.).
Adapts to changes in the work environment, changes to schedules, traffic delays, unexpected events, road conditions, weather conditions, and always follows company safety practices.
Uses time efficiently and completes work in a timely manner.
Complies with expectations of our contracts and all applicable Federal, State, and Local Regulatory standards for driving and vehicle safety.
Ability to present oneself as well as the company in a professional manner.
Any other duties as assigned by management.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Competent verbal and written English skills.
Must possess a valid Class C California driver’s license or higher.
Must pass a Criminal Background Screening and Sex Offender Registry Search at time of hire and annually thereafter.
Must pass government exclusion listings at time of hire and monthly thereafter.
Must pass a driver history check at time of hire and continuously during employment.
Must pass and maintain valid certification for CPR/AED/First Aid and other required training programs during employment.
Must pass drug and/or alcohol screen at time of hire and randomly thereafter.
Must pass a standard vehicle road test in our company vehicle at time of hire.
Must pass a medical examination which includes a review of medical history by a licensed medical professional and demonstration of ability to lift, push, and pull.
Must pass insurance driver standards at the time of hire and be able to maintain insurable status throughout employment.
Experience using navigation software on mobile devices such as Google Maps, Waze, Maps, etc.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Non-Emergency Medical Transport Driver is responsible for driving the vehicle to and from work facilities, group homes, home, and other consumer related facilities (at times with a driver assistant on board). This position maintains the safety and security of the vehicle and equipment, checks, and maintains vehicle equipment and supplies. Acts as face-to-face customer service for clients when on routes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF DRIVER:
Pick-up clients at home or other living facilities. Provides the assistance required to safely board clients and caregivers.
Transport clients to adult day centers and back home and other consumer related facilities.
Ensures all wheelchairs and ambulatory passengers are properly secured before starting the vehicle.
On arrival at the facility, assist clients in exiting the vehicle and reaching the facility
Check the vehicle to ensure that no personal items are left behind.
Follow company safety and operational rules and procedures.
Operate mobile devices, various software systems and operate GPS.
Follow safe loading and unloading procedures.
Maintains appropriate logs/records.
Maintains clean and efficient equipment; cleans vans after each use; reports defective/broken equipment to supervisor.
Communicate transport details with dispatch.
Possess a friendly and courteous attitude when transporting clients.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Fluent in English
Current CPR certification (preferred; company will pay for you to receive within first 30 days of employment)
First Aid Certification (preferred; the company will pay for you to receive within first 30 days of employment)
Hold a current valid driver's license and have an excellent driving record.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, MVR screening, and background check.
Safely operate a wheelchair and other consumer related equipment.
Must be reliable and capable of working independently.
Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Must be flexible to work early morning, mid-morning, or late evening hours.
Must be flexible to be placed on-call for filling in, when rotated.
Flexible to changing work priorities/schedules.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift, push, pull, and position clients frequently.
Ability to perform considerable reaching, stooping, and bending.
The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
