Program Aide – Adult Achievement Center (Auburn)
The Arc of Placer County is a non-profit agency dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are seeking a Program Aide for our Adult Achievement Center day program which serves adults in the Auburn area.
Under the general direction of the Program Director/Assistant Director and Program Supervisor, the Program Aide will assist clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop basic skills on an individual or small group basis and do related work as required.
The person in this position must possess a great deal of empathy; must exercise careful judgment while giving individualized attention to clients in the areas of personal growth and development. This person must also provide a learning environment focused on specific subjects in a small group setting that allows for individual differences and promotes respect for the value and dignity of each client.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide Program Director/Assistant Director with information to aid in assessment of clients’ strengths as well as areas where improvement is possible.
Be responsible for documentation of client progress and assessing client skills.
Communicate with Program Instructors and other staff to provide a detailed assessment of clients for ISPs and 6-month progress reports.
Work cooperatively with all program staff to ensure client ISP goals are achieved.
Maintain assigned client files accurately by following the client case file checklist.
Maintain class activities independent of other classes by creating and implementing a monthly calendar of activities.
Accurately and thoroughly document clients’ daily activities.
Instruct classes in areas such as art, cooking, exercise, shopping, money skills, grooming, mobility training, and other activities geared towards individual clients’ abilities in accordance with person centered planning.
Instruct and implement activities in independent-living skills including personal hygiene, public transportation, homemaking, job-seeking skills, communication skills, motor development, and leisure-time activities geared towards individual clients’ abilities in accordance with person centered planning.
Help establish and facilitate client goals on an individual or small group basis including self-advocacy, community integration and employment training.
Take clients to public places for learning and entertaining experiences in accordance with HCBS regulations.
Assist clients physically on outings as well as in the center to enable their participation in the community and program activities including pushing wheelchairs and assisting with personal hygiene which may include lifting, carrying, bending, and supporting the weight of the clients when needed.
Assist clients in their ability to increase their communication and social-development skills by using words or signs appropriate to the clients’ specific needs in order to engage them in program activities.
Attend weekly staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Employ information learned in trainings and meetings, including but not limited to positive behavior support.
Assist clients in preparing lunch and basic classroom cleaning.
Maintain equipment.
Safely transport clients in company vehicle, personal vehicle and on public transportation.
Monitor materials in stock; plan and request needed supplies one month ahead.
Strictly adhere to agency workplace safety plans, including the Infection Control Plan and Illness and Injury Prevention Plan.
Maintain confidentiality.
Report to work on time and be ready to work.
Regularly attend work.
Must read, speak, write and comprehend English at a 12th grade level.
Perform other duties as required by the Program Director/Assistant Director or designated representatives.
Function as a collaborative member of the department team and the organization as a whole.
Adhere to The Arc of Placer County Code of Ethics adopted March, 2004.
Effectively receive supervision.
COVID-19 Essential Job Functions:
Adhere to all agency Covid safety protocols as outlined in The Arc of Placer County Infection Control Plan. This may include but not be limited to social distancing, mask wearing, increased hygiene and cleaning, screening, self-monitoring and reporting of Covid symptoms.
Daily replenish supplies as needed, including hand sanitizer, bathroom hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Report low inventory to management.
Set up and take down outdoor classrooms.
Plan and implement activities for remote services as needed.
Lines of Supervision: Supervision received from Program Director/Assistant Director and Program Supervisor (program managers). Does not give supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Must be able to physically assist fellow staff on outings and in the center, including pushing wheelchairs, assisting people with walkers, pushing, bending and lifting as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
High school graduate. Work experience in the field of developmental disabilities is preferred. Must have good social skills and be able to teach the importance of good grooming, clear communication, and functional-living skills. Must have the ability to use various forms of technology. Valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance. CPR and First Aid certification (training provided). Complete a minimum of 8 hours of on-the-job training each year.
Other Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age. Upon a contingent job offer, applicant must be able to obtain necessary clearances required by law, including a licensing background clearance, medical clearance and proof of clear TB. Completion of Covid-19 primary series and booster vaccinations preferred.
Classification: Regular part-time, non-exempt. 25 hours/week. Mon-Thurs 9:15 am-2:15 pm with adjusted hours on Friday 8:00 am-1:00 pm for staff meetings.
Compensation range: $17.00-18.74 per hour. NOTE: This position has a fixed entry-level starting wage.
