Summary:

Under supervision of WPL YES! Program, with daily leadership from Placer County and in collaboration with Law Enforcement, the Youth Community Partner will offer support to Family Mobile Crisis Team members and transition age youth (ages 12 to 21), still living with parents or caregivers and residing in the Roseville geographic area. Primary responsibilities will be: Working in collaboration with the Family Mobile Team (FMT), co-located at the Roseville Police Department, after they respond to law enforcement calls or other referrals requesting assistance for young people who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, family conflict, alcohol and/or drug use, or domestic violence involving children; Helping to reduce repeat crisis by linking youth and families to needed on-going services through post- crisis follow-up processes; Working effectively with law enforcement to resolve crisis in the community and reduce the number of psychiatric hospitalizations; and, Assisting youth and family members through respectful, effective and empowering services, resulting in a positive experience with recipients of services.

Requirements:

● Ability to work closely and effectively with law enforcement and other FMT members.

● Must be 18 years of age or older and no longer receiving child welfare services.

● Strong work ethic, organization skills, dependable, flexible and able to adapt to daily changes and challenges.

● Must have direct personal experience as a youth, or as a primary support person of a youth, who has received Mental Health, Child Protective, and/or Probation services.

● Knowledge of and/or ability to learn Positive Youth Development, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Practices, and Cultural Sensitivity.

● Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups from different educational, economic, cultural and racial backgrounds.

● Must own and effectively maintain a personal vehicle and possess a valid State of California Driver’s License, with approved DMV Record, in order to fulfill the essential functions of this position.

● Proof of a minimum of 100/300/100 Liability Insurance Coverage is required prior to driving personal vehicles on company business.

● Must pass an extensive County and law enforcement criminal background check and drug screen.

● Spanish Bi-lingual and Bi-cultural highly recommended, with pay differential available after 90 day introductory period.

Job Duties:

● Engage with older youth, after crisis, to assist in identifying and accessing services they believe will be most helpful to them.

● Participate with FMT members in discussion, training and relationship building to ensure effective collaboration.

● Commitment to continuous communication and performance evaluation as a critical component of successful partnership.

● Provide education about different systems, services and/or placements and support in how to navigate them effectively.

● Inform youth of their rights within the system and how to advocate for their rights.

● Research and connect youth to available community services/resources.

● Meet with and/or transport participants to locations in the community (e.g., schools,

job training agencies, coffee shops, etc).

● Teach/empower youth to use self-advocacy skills and engage in the decisions that affect their lives.

● Work collaboratively with each youth’s individual support team to identify, use and maintain permanent lifelong connections with their natural supports.

● Effectively communicate and represent participant feedback and your direct personal experience.

● Act as a positive role model for youth and encourage positive and healthy choices.

● Promote a positive agency image for all agencies involved in this collaboration and to youth, staff and other community members.

● Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and in accordance with Federal, State and Agency standards.

● Complete and submit accurate documentation as assigned in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures.

● Attend and participate in required trainings, staff and co-supervision meetings.

● Reduce stigma around youth, by working in partnership with county and community partners.

● Occasionally respond to youth in crisis, upon request, especially for previously assigned/established youth.

● Perform other duties as assigned by your Supervisors.
