Job Description:
Farm crew members work in the field, greenhouse, wash/pack facility, and at our weekly farm stand. This allows for a wide variety of tasks day to day, week to week and throughout the season. Crew members are trained on the job to perform the tasks they are responsible for (listed below).
Tasks (include, but not limited to)
Growing transplants in the greenhouse
Moving tarps and sandbags used for field occultation
Transplanting
Cultivating- hoeing crops in the field, some hand weeding
Trellising
Harvesting-by hand with a knife, making bunches, cutting loose greens, harvesting fruits (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant etc)
Irrigation work- setting up sprinklers and drip tape, fixing leaks, washing filters, running water
Mowing/weed whacking- general property upkeep
Washing produce
Packing produce- for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) boxes as well as wholesale orders
Record keeping- recording harvest details
Farm stand- Customer interaction and sales, restocking produce at stand
Skills and Requirements
We are looking for healthy, well rounded, good natured, mature people who like to work hard and who we can trust. We need people who come to work on time and prepared for the day. Farm experience is great, but not required for this position. Physical work experience or a sports background are important as farming is a very physically demanding job.
Working on the farm requires the ability to lift 40-50lbs repeatedly, kneeling, squatting, standing for long periods of time, and moving quickly from one task to the next. Work must be done in all weather conditions; hot, sunny and potentially smoky as well as cold and rainy conditions. Please consider this carefully before applying. All crew members must:
Come to work on time dependably
Have a working cell phone for communication
Be able to follow instructions and pay attention to detail
Be physically fit and able to lift 40-50lbs repeatedly
Be able to cope with the many challenges of farm work
Be able to encourage others and see the good in other people
Be able to gracefully accept constructive criticism
Be able to communicate clearly with other crew members and managers
Schedule
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: Potential for year round work exists
Work Days: Monday-Friday
Work Hours: 7.5-8 hour work day with a 1 hour unpaid lunch
Work start/end: Seasonally dependent, but generally 7-3:30 or 4, start time shifts as we move farther into Fall
Compensation:
$17/hour. We pay overtime at 8hours/day and 40hours/week. For every 30 hours worked, 1 hour of sick time is earned which can be used to pay for time taken off due to sickness. Crew members are welcome to take home fresh produce from the abundance of the farm and welcome to purchase bread and fruit from farms we regularly work with.
