Primary Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Client Services Coordinator, provide supportive services to shelter and transitional clients and assist in daily functioning and maintenance of housing programs.

A. Housing Assistant Advocate:

1. Provide culturally competent crisis intervention, peer counseling and life skills training to shelter/transitional residents and their children. This includes providing advocacy, accompaniment, transportation, translation, shelter/motel intakes and placement, and case management. Assist clients through providing information and assistance with temporary restraining orders and custody issues. Assist clients through legal and medical processes.

2. Collaborate with law enforcement, CPS, Victim/Witness, social service organizations and other program to ensure quality services for shelter/transitional residents

3. Attend regularly scheduled shelter meetings with Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and house meetings with the Client Services Coordinator. Meet daily with the Client Services Coordinator to discuss client progress, safety issues, and ongoing client evaluations/needs

4. Support all clients in achieving their goals and/or reevaluating goals set upon becoming a resident.

5. Enforce the shelter and transitional housing property cleanliness policies.

6. Clean and sanitize all rooms within each shelter and transitional housing unit. This includes but not limited to moping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing fixtures, washing down walls and doors, washing interior and exterior windows, and cleaning window blinds and coverings.

7. Launder all bedding items, kitchen and bathroom towels, washable living quarter items, cleaning cloths/rags, and dust mop covers upon client vacating a room or unit.

8. Aid in rearranging and or moving furniture as necessary

9. Provide outdoor maintenance as needed. This includes light gardening, trash removal and snow removal. Conduct daily shelter and bi-weekly transitional property assessments to identify and address needed repairs.

10. Maintain client service documentation and required program statistics. Statistical client sheets must be submitted at the last day of your individual work week.

11. Complete weekly, or as needed, supply and grocery shopping for shelter, transitional and/or emergency food closet.

12. Properly store and organize all food, supplies, and tools for shelter and transitional housing properties.

13. Receive ongoing training in SART and conduct forensic interviews for Spanish-speaking children when requested by law enforcement agencies.

14. Conduct management and development of weekly English support group for children. Assist with child care while clients are in shelter or transitional programs, assist with sorting/distributing donations of clothing, food and furniture/household items.

B. Other Duties:

1. Attend weekly staff meetings, quarterly in-services and bi-annual staff retreats.

2. Assist with fundraising, community education and submit newsletter articles as requested.

3. Maintain skill level through reading and attend trainings as required.

4. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Upon hire, complete the state certified 80 hour training. Must be proficient in verbal and written English. Previous experience in maintenance, housekeeping or custodial is prefer. Must be able to work well with minimal supervision, possess good judgment, and contribute to a team-oriented environment. This position requires frequent moving and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds (and occasionally, objects up to 100 pounds.) Frequent bending over pulling, and pushing are required. May not have been in a domestic violence relationship or received services for at least 2 years due to the risk of transference in the workplace. Valid driver's license, current auto insurance and registration, and dependable vehicle are required.
