No prior dispatching experience is required. The ideal candidates will possess a certain skill set, integrity, maturity, and a strong work ethic, as well as a good deal of around-the-clock scheduling availability throughout the week, and be willing to work swing and/or graveyard shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

Hourly wage during training is $19.50 with an increase to $21.63 once training is completed. Employees receive an additional $2.00/hr after they've met the requirements to work as Primary. After a waiting period, benefits include paid time off, holiday pay, affordable health insurance, and a 401k with employer matching contributions.

THE JOB

Dispatchers perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in this 24-hour facility, receiving and prioritizing incoming calls for ambulances. Dispatchers are assigned to 8-hr. shifts that may include day shifts, afternoon/evening swing shifts, graveyard shifts, or some combination of these.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

+ Effective interpersonal communication skills and ability to convey information verbally in a clear, concise, and authoritative manner to customers, employees, and agency partners over the phone and radio

+ Ability to present a professional, pleasant image and provide positive customer service on the phone and with coworkers, maintaining a respectful, team-oriented attitude

+ General knowledge of greater Humboldt county geography communities, towns, main streets and highways

+ Ability to learn street locations, station locations and geography of the area served

+ Computer literate, familiarity with Microsoft Office products and ability to use online tools such as Google Maps

+ Good organization skills, attention to detail and ability to stay focused

+ Work accurately and quickly in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure

+ Ability to manage multiple tasks at once: answer phone calls, make radio contact with crews, provide instruction, relay information, track trips and vehicle locations, and completing paperwork

+ Understand and follow oral and written work instructions, policies and procedures

+ Conscientious commitment to good attendance, arriving on time, and minimizing work absences

+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
