Caregiver Wanted
We are looking for a caregiver to work a full-time schedule assisting a senior man who is recovering from a stroke which caused paralysis to half his body and damage to his speech center. He is good natured, highly educated, and was an athlete and dancer before the stroke. He is very committed to his recovery and is making slow, steady progress, and becoming more independent and capable every day.
Work hours and days are flexible, but should be on a consistent schedule. Hours will include some evenings and weekends.
He is living in Arcata in a house which has a very nice attached 1 bedroom apartment with a separate, private yard with a deck and shed. Our first choice is to find a caregiver who would like to live in the apartment and go next door during work hours.
Pay is negotiable and will be based on experience, hours available, and use of apartment.
Required Tasks:
vegetarian meal preparation and shopping
assist with bathing and dressing
assist with transfers between bed, wheelchair, toilet, furniture, car (no heavy lifting needed)
transport to appointments, shopping, and outings
offer companionship and help with recreational activities
practice therapy programs as directed by physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist
organize, log, and administer medications. Check blood pressure
schedule other caregivers and keep accurate, online calendar of caregivers and appointments
keep accurate records of hours and activities, invoice family every 2 weeks
basic technology skills with phone, tablet, laptop, online calendar
Preferred:
help with laundry and housekeeping, (but this could be hired out to someone else)
Required:
valid driver's license and good driving record
ability to maintain friendly, professional relationships with client's family and care team
personal and work references
