Job Summary: Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, supports physical therapy care by performing procedures and preparing treatment areas, patients, and equipment/materials. Performs other duties to support the facility as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepares treatment rooms and gym for patients as well as cleans treatment rooms and gym following patient use, including but not limited to, disinfecting tables and gym equipment, restocking supplies, providing clean linens, towels, and gowns/shorts, and removing soiled linens and treatment equipment.
Cleans treatment rooms and gym following patient use, including but not limited to, disinfecting tables and gym equipment, and removing soiled linens and equipment.
Escorts patients into treatment rooms or gym and puts patient charts in appropriate location.
Notifies Physical Therapists regarding patient status including patients waiting and other patient needs.
Assists in providing patient treatment under the supervision of Physical Therapists and as permitted by state law, including but not limited to, applying heat and ice packs, assisting patients into pool, helping patients onto exercise equipment, monitoring motion, tracking walking time and distance, measuring mobility, and assisting patients to perform prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques.
Educates patients by demonstrating proper use of equipment and exercise routines.
Provides equipment and supplies by sterilizing and delivering equipment and supplies to treatment area, positioning equipment for therapist access and positioning patient on equipment.
Reports information to Physical Therapist regarding patient status following exercises.
Accesses internet based home exercise program and prints materials for physical therapists and patients.
In some locations, washes and dries laundry. Ensures an ample supply of clean linens is available for clinic use.
Performs duties of Medical Front Office Specialists as needed to provide coverage for scheduling gaps and to provide extra support as needed.
Performs duties of Closing Custodian as needed to provide coverage for scheduling gaps and to provide extra support as needed.
Trains new employees, including Physical Therapy Aides and Closing Custodians, as needed.
In some locations, collects garbage at the end of each working day.
Reports problems to Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants as needed.
Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
Maintains physical therapy supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needed supplies. Notifies appropriate personnel to order additional inventory as needed.
Participates in EPT Physical Therapy in-services and staff meetings as necessary.
Participates in and adheres to, as required, the HIPAA Policies of EPT Physical Therapy.
Participates in and contributes to the Quality Assurance Program of EPT Physical Therapy.
Offers friendly, courteous and confidential assistance to every patient of EPT Physical Therapy to ensure that the patient has a positive experience.
Works in another location, other than the office currently assigned, as needed to cover other employees who may be out of the office.
Performs any and all other duties assigned.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
2 years-experience in providing physical therapy assistance
High school diploma or equivalent.
PC proficiency with various software applications to include MS Office (Word, Excel).
Working knowledge of office equipment.
Excellent verbal, listening, written, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interact with a diverse patient population and effectively interface with all levels of patients, employees, and other entities (doctor’s offices, insurance companies, etc.).
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently when necessary.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Knowledge of human anatomy, exercise science, and/or kinesiology preferred.
Experience working in a housekeeping or janitorial environment preferred
Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently stand and walk.
Ability to frequently lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to occasionally sit, reach, twist, bend, reach overhead and squat in order to demonstrate patient exercises.
Ability to assist in supporting patient weight by helping patients with walking, balancing or standing or assisting Physical Therapist with transferring patients.
Ability to frequently use repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
Work requires visual acuity in order to read Physical Therapist instructions, patient charts, and a computer screen at a distance close to the eyes.
Ability to hear and speak clearly.
Ability to travel to other office locations as needed.
