Humboldt Friends is seeking a skilled App Developer to join our small, mission-driven team building a local friend-making network as a progressive web app (PWA). The project is funded through the California Self-Determination Program to support the goals of a person with autism in creating greater inclusion, social connection, and disability awareness.
We’re looking for strong JavaScript, CSS, and HTML skills plus experience with serverless (Cloudflare, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud). Please ensure your skills match this occupation before applying. Due to cost-effectiveness mandates, if your skills don’t fully match, limited hours may be provided until proficiency is demonstrated, with potential for more as skills and needs align.
Schedule & Hours
Current openings: Sunday–Thursday, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Expect 1–2 days per week after a 1-day paid training
Opportunities for fill-ins and expanded hours as skills and project needs grow
On-site only (Arcata, CA)
Compensation & Role
Pay: $30/hr
Part-time only unless you opt to take on additional non-programming tasks (e.g., errands or inclusive supports for the founder)
No remote work available
Requirements
Proficient in JavaScript, CSS, HTML
Experience with PWAs and serverless/cloud (Cloudflare Workers, AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, or Google Cloud Functions)
FBI & DOJ background check required, conducted via the Arcata Police Station (see notes)
Reliable, collaborative, and comfortable in a small, evolving team environment
Commitment to building safe, inclusive community connections
Training
All hires—including programmers—receive written training on HIPAA law and autism to ensure compliance and awareness for the nature of our work.

Important Notes
Background Check: FBI/DOJ clearance is mandatory and processed at the Arcata Police Station. Cost is up to $90 and cannot be reimbursed due to regulations.

Cost-Effectiveness: If skills aren’t a full match, limited hours may be assigned until proficiency is demonstrated.
Training: Written HIPAA and autism training is required for all hires.
On-Site Only: This is a local Arcata position. No remote work is available.
