Concrete Finisher / Form Setter
The Concrete Finisher/Form Setter is responsible for building and setting forms, placing and finishing concrete, and ensuring that all work meets National Paving Company’s quality, safety, and project standards. This role requires hands-on construction skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a paving and concrete crew.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and grade stakes to determine form placement and concrete specifications.
Measure, cut, and assemble wood, metal, or other materials to set forms for curbs, sidewalks, slabs, and other concrete structures.
Pour, spread, level, and finish concrete using hand tools, power tools, and finishing machines.
Apply appropriate textures and finishes such as broom, trowel, edging, or stamping as required by project specifications.
Ensure proper curing of concrete by applying sealing compounds or protective coverings.
Remove forms, clean work areas, and backfill trenches after concrete has cured.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Follow all company, DOT, and Cal/OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Assist with general labor, site preparation, and material handling as directed.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in concrete finishing and form setting preferred (will consider candidates with strong general construction experience).
Licenses/Certifications:
o Valid California Driver’s License required; Class A CDL a plus.
o OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
o Ability to safely operate concrete finishing tools and equipment.
o Strong knowledge of concrete placement, curing, and finishing techniques.
o Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and elevations.
o Basic math and measuring skills.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work with hands and arms for extended periods.
Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds as needed.
Work outdoors in varying conditions including heat, cold, dust, and uneven terrain.
Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as project schedules require.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed outdoors on active construction sites with exposure to moving equipment, traffic, and weather conditions. Proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
