Participates in quality control, preventive maintenance, quality assurance and proficiency testing activities. Evaluates test results for validity prior to result reporting.Job Description :Maintains quality in laboratory testing. Demonstrates mastery of QC procedures and interpretation of clinical values, including critical values and delta checks. Provides clear concise documentation of quality assurance problems and steps taken in resolution Appropriately evaluates specimen acceptability and initiates required follow-up action. Takes appropriate action when patient values fall outside expected ranges, e.g., repeats or dilutions. Performs transfusion section testing accurately and completely, with detailed attention to required record keeping. Actively participates in graded and ungraded aspects of proficiency testing and performs this testing within expected timeframes without prompting. Always documents critical values according to policy. Accurately performs and reports appropriate test(s) on a properly identified patients and/or specimens. By consistently meeting manufacturer's criteria for maintaining commercial control material and reagent stabilities, assures that quality control is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.Effectively utilizes work time and department resources. Regularly completes workstation assignments within established timeframes, meeting established turnaround times 90% of the time. Performs duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision. Develops and maintains a work routine that extends across at least 2 workstations, effectively prioritizing workload to meet multiple workstation requirements. Performs daily QC and Preventative Maintenance and thoroughly documents results. Maintains a clean, well-stocked, and well-organized workstation. Spills and clutter are rarely apparent. Consistently reports to supervisor of available time for additional assignments.Application of current scientific principles to clinical situations. Demonstrates thorough understanding of technical procedures. Effectively applies technical knowledge in transfusion services in the identification of antibodies and the documentation process that demonstrates the optimal use of time and supplies. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument operation. Demonstrates initiative and active participation in continuing education programs and provides documentation to the lab manager. Effectively addresses technical questions by first referring to procedures and bringing appropriate information regarding discrepancies to the supervisor. Shares with co-workers technical knowledge obtains at seminars, workshops, and in-service sessions through written or oral presentation(s).Appropriately addresses analytical and system performance. Identifies a systematic problem by correlating QC shifts and trends with instrument performance, maintenance records and current records of calibration and lot number changes. Evaluates the technical situation and initiates corrective action, making consultations where appropriate. Recognizes basic malfunctions of analytical equipment and initiates appropriate troubleshooting procedures and follows established protocol for resolving major problems that may result in significant downtime. Re-establishes priorities when faced with equipment downtime.
