The Opportunity:
We are seeking a seasonal Tax Preparer who can manage and prepare tax return through filing. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, possess a strong understanding of current federal and state tax laws, and be adept at communicating issues clearly to clients.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation: Prepare and review a variety of federal and state income tax returns for individuals (Form 1040) and business entities (Form 1120, 1120-S, 1065, and 990). Familiarity with fiduciary/trust returns (Form 1041) is a plus.
Gather and analyze financial data using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or other relevant tools to ensure comprehensive tax filings.
Review financial documents including income statements, balance sheets, and bank statements to identify relevant tax information.
Assist clients in understanding their tax obligations by explaining complex financial concepts clearly and professionally.
Compliance & Research: Stay current on new tax legislation, code changes, and reporting requirements. Conduct necessary tax research.
Client Service: Communicate directly with clients to download client tax documents, gather necessary documentation, resolve open issues, and address tax notices and penalty abatement requests (e.g., IRS and state notices).
Planning & Consulting: Identify opportunities for tax savings and planning strategies for clients.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of recent, hands-on experience preparing individual and business tax returns in a public accounting setting.
Software Proficiency: Expert proficiency with professional tax preparation software of Lacerte and experience with QuickBooks.
Communication: Written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical tax matters clearly to non-tax professionals.
