Alana's Coffee Roasters is a small batch roaster in the heart of Mar Vista with additional locations in WeHo and Venice. We are looking for experienced baristas with excellent people skills for our Mar Vista location, Potential candidates must have 2+ years working in a non manual espresso machine environment creating coffee drinks and making pour over coffee to order.
New hires must have an understanding of how to dial in espresso, including making grind, dose, and timing adjustments on the fly. Milk steaming must be silky smooth. Good latte art is important but so is a sense of humor and desire to interact with customers. There are a hundred other coffee shops - making a connection with customers is key to a return visit.
Candidates should have a strong knowledge of coffee including understanding origin, process, and varietal in order to answer any questions from customers and make informed recommendations. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in high volume rushes while remaining composed and hospitable. Employees are expected to make the best use of time during slow periods including cleaning, prepping, restocking, and reorganizing.
Requires early morning and weekend availability (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) We generally have a fast paced and collaborative work environment. We prioritize team and community building and are looking for someone who enjoys working with people to create a positive and welcoming environment.
Job Requirements and Duties:
Prepare coffee and espresso drinks with attention to detail. Milk and alternative milk steaming skills are a must. Knowledge of dialing in espresso for the right taste. Desire to learn more about coffee
Properly handle and maintain all coffee brewing equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized bartop throughout the day.
Prepare teas, lemonade, specialty coffee drinks, and various syrups according to recipes.
Back of house prep includes preparing overnight oats, chia pudding, cold brew, batched Iced teas etc.
Handle all open, mid shift and close duties as assigned. Be prepared to work bar, register or backup depending on what's needed
There is minimal heavy lifting for restocking of paper goods and sugars/oats etc.
Attend all training sessions and staff meetings
Food Handlers required
Ability to get along with customers and co-workers
Availability for 20+ hours a week and desire to be a key holder (opening and closing duties)
Clear and open communication is a must, both with customers, and colleagues.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED
2+ year of specialty coffee experience required. At this time we are looking for candidates that have a strong coffee background and lots of experience
