We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Chef or Cook to join our team at Golden Assisted Living. As a Chef/Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals for our residents in a safe, sanitary, and timely manner. You will work closely with the dietary staff to ensure that meals meet the nutritional and dietary needs of each resident, promoting their overall health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Meal Preparation:

Prepare and cook a variety of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in accordance with resident dietary preferences and restrictions.

Follow standardized recipes and portion control to maintain meal consistency.

Ensure all food is prepared in a safe, hygienic, and sanitary manner, adhering to all food safety regulations.

Menu Planning and Dietary Needs:

Collaborate with the dietary team to plan weekly or monthly menus that meet the nutritional requirements of residents, including special diets such as low-sodium, low-sugar, vegetarian, or gluten-free.

Assist with special dietary requests or modifications for residents with medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, food allergies).

Food Storage and Safety:

Maintain proper food storage, rotation, and labeling to ensure freshness and prevent contamination.

Follow all food safety procedures, including cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, cooking utensils, and equipment.

Resident Interaction:

Engage with residents in a friendly and respectful manner during meal service.

Take note of individual resident preferences and work to incorporate these into meal planning.

Team Collaboration:

Work closely with kitchen staff, dietitians, and management to ensure smooth operations.

Train and supervise kitchen assistants and other staff as needed.

Inventory and Ordering:

Assist in ordering food and supplies to ensure that the kitchen is fully stocked.

Monitor inventory levels and report any shortages to management in a timely manner.

Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including local food safety laws and Assisted Living facility guidelines.

Participate in periodic training and education on food safety, sanitation, and dietary requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:

Culinary Experience: Previous experience in a professional kitchen, particularly in a senior care setting or institutional foodservice, is preferred.

Food Safety Certification: Must have or be willing to obtain certification in food safety and sanitation (e.g., ServSafe).

Knowledge of Special Diets: Familiarity with dietary restrictions and the ability to prepare meals for residents with various health conditions or allergies.

Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes, ensure proper food storage, and maintain high standards of cleanliness.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with residents, staff, and management.

Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a fast-paced environment.
