As a key member of the kitchen leadership team, the Sous Chef upholds the highest standards of professionalism, culinary execution, and kitchen management. This position is responsible for supporting the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations and ensuring the consistent quality, presentation, and taste of all dishes served.

The Sous Chef must lead by example, demonstrating excellence in sanitation, cleanliness, organization, safety, and food preparation. This position requires a hands-on approach, actively participating in and overseeing all kitchen operations, including inventory, menu development, staff training, and equipment maintenance.

This is a full-time position, requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, with a schedule of at least five days on-site.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure high efficiency and adherence to the highest culinary standards.

- Assist the Executive Chef in menu planning and development, ensuring the menu is current, seasonal, and aligns with the restaurant’s vision.

- Supervise and train kitchen staff on food preparation, kitchen safety, and hygiene practices, ensuring a productive and collaborative work environment.

- Ensure food is prepared, plated, and served to meet the restaurant’s standards of quality, consistency, and presentation.

- Manage kitchen inventory and ordering processes to ensure proper stock levels and cost control, reducing waste while maintaining quality.

- Maintain kitchen equipment and facilities in accordance with best practices, ensuring regular cleaning, preventative maintenance, and timely repairs as necessary.

- Monitor food costs and labor efficiency by working closely with the Executive Chef and management to meet business goals.

- Maintain full knowledge of all menu items, ingredients, recipes, and all in-house operating procedures, and marketing promotions.

- Ensure all dishes are prepared and served safely by enforcing hygiene and sanitation protocols, maintaining an A grade with the local health department.

- Provide leadership and foster teamwork by motivating the kitchen staff, handling conflicts professionally, and ensuring a positive work environment.

- Perform at a high level in a very fast paced restaurant environment

- Contribute to the overall success of the kitchen by going above and beyond when required, assisting other team members, and taking on special tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

- 5+ years of culinary experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role as Sous Chef or similar position

- High school diploma or GED; culinary degree preferred

- CA ServSafe Food Manager certification preferred or must have the ability to successfully pass the Food Manager certification within 30 days of employment.

- Experience in fine dining or high-volume restaurants preferred

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to stand and walk for 6-10 hours per shift

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $67,781.00 - $85,000.00 per year
