The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) invites applications for the position of Custodian. A Custodian performs a broad range of custodial services necessary to maintain a college campus or facility in a clean and orderly condition for effective use by students, faculty, staff, and the public.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

Monthly Salary: $3,933.44 - $4,872.85 ($47,201.28-$58,474.20 annually) 

Salary Information is based on a full-time, 12-month position 

Health Benefits: District-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for employee and dependents. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided free of charge for each employee. A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with $1,500 contributed by LACCD annually. 

Paid Time Off: 12 full-pay days and 88 half-pay days of illness leave per year, 19 paid holidays per year, and accrued vacation time from 10-24 days per year depending on the position.  Other paid time off options are also available.  

Retirement: Employees become members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) pension. Employees are also covered by Social Security.

TYPICAL DUTIES 

Cleans, dusts, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms, offices, classrooms, and hallways.

Gathers and disposes of rubbish, paper and debris; empties and washes refuse containers from interior and exterior locations.

Collects materials deposited in interior and exterior recycling receptacles; transports the materials to a recycling farm on campus; sorts recyclables in specific containers and discards foreign non-recyclable debris.

Services soap dispensers, paper towel and toilet tissue boxes, toilet seat covers, and similar fixtures.

Cleans chalkboards/whiteboards, trays, and erasers.

Washes, spot cleans, and disinfects walls, windows, furniture, plumbing, light fixtures, window coverings, sinks, and related items.

Vacuums, shampoos, cleans, and treats carpeting.

Sweeps, dust mops, wet mops, scrubs, strips, seals, waxes, and polishes floors.

Sweeps and cleans outdoor tennis courts, lunch areas, walkways, parking lots, stadiums, and other paved areas using manual and power equipment.

Washes interior and exterior ground level windows.

Hoses down and/or power washes exterior paved areas and building exteriors as required.

Moves, sets-up, arranges, and adjusts chairs, desks, tables, and other furniture and equipment as required for classrooms, offices, and special activities.

Replaces various types of existing light fixture lamps.

Unlocks, locks and secures assigned areas.

Refinishes hardwood floors.

Provides information in regard to locations of various campus facilities and otherwise assists students, faculty, staff, and the general public using the campus facilities.

Removes graffiti.

May operate a trash compactor and other equipment such as sweepers, blowers, power washers, electric carts, scrubbing machines, and steam cleaning machines.

May perform flag care and etiquette duties.

May operate college-owned vehicles on public streets.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Vacancies currently exists at Los Angeles Trade Tech College, 400 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015 and West Los Angeles College, 9000 Overland Ave, Culver City, CA 90230 and East Los Angeles College, 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez, Monterey Park, CA 91754. The hiring list established by this examination will also be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the life of the list.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Education and Experience: 

A. Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND successful completion of a custodial training course of at least 60 hours.

OR

B. Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND one year of full-time, paid janitorial or custodial experience with a single employer.

Special:

A valid Class "C" California driver's license may be required for some positions.

Travel to locations throughout the District may be required for some positions.

Physical Requirement:

Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds

SELECTION PROCESS 

The selection process may consist of one or more exam parts which may include a training and experience evaluation, written test, performance test and/or oral interview. 

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are placed on an eligibility (hiring) list based on their overall exam score. In accordance with legal requirements, hiring departments may make job offers to candidates in the top three ranks of the eligibility list.
