Now Hiring: In-House Director of Construction

Location: San Fernando, California

Project Types: Multifamily, Office, Commercial, and Light Industrial

Aszkenazy Development, a private developer and operator of commercial and residential communities, is seeking a Director of Construction to join our team and oversee the successful execution of multifamily, office, commercial, and light industrial projects from pre-development through project delivery. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned construction leader to manage diverse projects while being an integral part of our in-house team.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead all aspects of construction management, from predevelopment planning including but not limited to final project delivery.

Collaborate with development, design, and engineering teams to ensure alignment with project goals.

Actively participate in site and building design processes from fit test through prototype adaptation. Complete functionality and constructability reviews of all sites and building designs.

Coordinate general contractor qualification and selection; develop instructions to bidders and manage contractor pricing.

Oversee project schedules, budgets, and quality standards to achieve on-time and on-budget completion.

Manage contractor and vendor relationships, including negotiation of contracts and oversight of performance.

Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.

Establish and maintain relationships with state and municipal regulatory agencies and inspectors.

Oversee and monitor the construction process including quality assurance inspections, job site meetings, construction contract administration, change order pricing, and project closeout and warranty.

Provide strategic input on design, value engineering, and construction methodologies.

Monitor risk management processes and resolve construction-related issues effectively.

Provide leadership toward additional value-added activities and support operational and departmental excellence.

Build and mentor a high-performing in-house construction team.

Maintain honest and ethical conduct at all times.

Deliver on-time, on-budget projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 years of total work experience in construction management, including multifamily, office, commercial, and light industrial projects. Including 3 to 5 years of experience managing multiple concurrent projects.

Proven expertise in managing projects through all phases, including predevelopment, permitting, construction, and delivery.

Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams.

Comprehensive knowledge of California building codes, earthworks, construction means, methods, regulations, and construction practices.

Experience in budget management, scheduling, and cost control.

BA/BS degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred. MBA is a major plus.

Advanced Microsoft Excel, MS Project, and CPM scheduling skills.

Strong organizational skills; must be able to manage and prioritize multiple projects in disparate geographies with the proper sense of urgency and accountability for strategic objectives.

Ability and willingness to work fully in-person, as well as to travel routinely to job sites.
