Job Title: Housing Rights Organizer
Reports To: Executive Director
Salary: $55-70k/annually
The Housing Rights Organizer is responsible for building LA CAN membership based in communities of, Downtown Los Angeles and South-Central Los Angeles. This position will organize our Tenant Anti Harassment Ordinance program which includes, program coordination, recruitment, committee development, and lead campaigns that address the Housing and Homelessness crisis. The Housing Rights Organizer will lead weekly tenant rights clinics. This includes tenant outreach and supporting tenants in documenting incidents and collecting supporting documentation.
Job Responsibilities:
Weekly outreach and engagement to tenants in Downtown Los Angeles and South-Central Los Angeles
Coordinate LA CANs Tenant Anti-Harassment Program
Support the implementation of leadership development activities with members
Community organizing and base-building activities that build power and support the housing committee
Participate in housing coalitions
Assist LA CAN weekly Legal Clinics
Facilitate communication between tenants, service providers, and landlords
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2-years experience in campaign building and housing justice, tenant, community, and/or political organizing
A deep understanding of issues facing marginalized communities and low-income families
Excellent organizational skills - good attention to detail and well organized
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strongly passionate about social justice issues
Basic tenant rights experience
Familiarity with online meeting tools like zoom
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds
Ability to self-start and follow guidance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual - Spanish/English, and/or experience working in multilingual environments
Excellent understanding of current rules and regulations of landlord-tenant law
Working knowledge of social media platforms for community engagement
