The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) invites applications for the position of Cashier. A Cashier collects and processes payments for merchandise sales and/or fees for services at an assigned campus location.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Monthly Salary: $3,888.83 - $4,817.57 ($46,665.96-$57,810.84 annually)

Salary Information is based on a full-time, 12-month position

Health Benefits: District-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for employee and dependents. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided free of charge for each employee. A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with $1,500 contributed by LACCD annually.

Paid Time Off: 12 full-pay days and 88 half-pay days of illness leave per year, at least 16 paid holidays per year, and accrued vacation time from 10-24 days per year depending on the position. Other paid time off options are also available.

Retirement: Employees become members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) pension. Employees are also covered by Social Security.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Operates a point of sale register to itemize and total selling price of merchandise and/or fees for services.

Collects payments from customers and processes payment transactions; makes change for cash transactions, and issues receipts.

Responds to customer inquiries related to merchandise items, orders, and/or fees for services and assists customers in locating and selecting merchandise.

Sets-up and maintains cash drawers daily to assure adequate cash for making change and records daily transaction amounts from cash register to balance cash drawer at the close of each day's business or at the end of the shift.

Checks identification and obtains authorizations on required transactions such as check, credit card, and accounts receivable purchases.

Trains others to operate the point of sale register.

Prepares daily register sales reports.

Issues authorized refunds or credit vouchers to customers for returned merchandise.

Stocks and keeps merchandise shelves, counter space, displays, and sales areas neat and orderly in accordance with established standards.

Assists in taking inventories by counting merchandise items on shelves and in storage.

Orders and receives standard articles for assigned areas such as candy, gum, etc. and processes online orders and generates order packing slips and invoices.

Operates an electronic scanner to record prices of merchandise, take inventory, receive shipments, and scan school identification cards.

Reviews price sheets to note price changes and sale items.

Inputs price changes into the point of sale computer system.

Marks merchandise with predetermined prices.

Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones and maintaining files.

If assigned to a food operation or convenience store, performs additional duties such as clearing counters and tables, mopping spills, refilling condiments and utensil holders, assisting in preparation, and serving of a variety of foods and beverages.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or its equivalent. Six months of cashiering experience is desirable.

Special:

A Food Handler Certificate may be required for some positions.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process may consist of one or more exam parts which may include a training and experience evaluation, written test, performance test and/or oral interview.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are placed on an eligibility (hiring) list based on their overall exam score. In accordance with legal requirements, hiring departments may make job offers to candidates in the top three ranks of the eligibility list.
