Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Specialist – Long Beach

Sierra Cybernetics is seeking a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) Specialist to work for us supporting our Port of Long Beach client.

You should have 5+ years’ experience in designing and implementing BC/DR processes and procedures for re-establishing servers, databases and operating systems in the event of a disruption, both minor and catastrophic. You will perform and analyze disaster simulations for the prompt restoration of services, conduct audits where required, develop and maintain the BC/DR Recovery Plan, and integrate BC/DR efforts across all Divisions at the Port.

This is a 6+ months contract assignment. Open to US citizens, Green Card holders, and H1-B visa holders.

This is primarily a BC/DR planning and oversight position. Understanding infrastructure technologies is essential but this is not a Network or Data Center technician or technologist position.

You should have a thorough understanding of tools used for Replication, for e.g. VMWare, Veeam, backup process using Veeam software, a thorough understanding of business applications and their relationships to web, database, and application servers in the standard three environments (Dev, Stage, and Prod). You will be working with the Network Operation Center (NOC), Security Operation Center (SOC), Service Desk (SD), and the Business Applications (BA) teams within the Port’s Information Management Division. Since it is an Enterprise Wide effort, the BC/DR Specialist will work with other Divisions, especially the Risk Management Division which leads Business Continuity processes for the Port.

Experience and Skills

5 years of recent experience in BC/DR, developing, maintaining and testing recovery plans.

3 years’ experience with disaster recovery and/or business continuity planning, testing or training.

3 years’ with data and voice telecommunications to guide the preparation of related recovery procedures.

3 years’ experience of VMWare SRM, Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator (DRO), and Veeam backup.

3 years’ experience of Data center infrastructure development and management experience

3 years’ experience of Backup, recovery, storage systems and IT security management

Ability to develop, implement and maintain an organization-wide strategy around BC/DR

Ability to develop and implement BC/DR incident management practices

Education

Four-year college technical degree. Additional experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis

Desirable Certification(s)

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) foundational certification.

CBCP Certification.

Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and maintain BC/DR strategy plans across the enterprise.

Manages the implementation and execution of the BC/DR strategy to meet industry leading practices.

Defines steps to resolve cybersecurity incidents and associated escalation procedures.

Manages KPIs (i.e. RTO and RPO) and dashboards to report metrics, goals and milestones relevant to DR

Maintains, tests and updates the BC/DR Plan under management supervision

Monitors the quality of technology services through continual audits

Establishes training programs to educate employees on organizational best practices

Works with Port BC/DR stakeholders to iteratively test critical business applications
