Metal Fabricator Responsibilities:
Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints.
Constructing base templates if necessary.
Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines.
Setting up metalwork machinery including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters, brakes, and shears.
Double-checking design specifications before commencing with cutting work.
Fabricating and constructing metal components by the best joining practices.
Grinding and finishing completed products.
Performing quality checks on completed products.
Conforming to state and company safety regulations.
Completing job reports as required.
Report any issues in quality or timely completion to the Metals Foreman.
Metal Fabricator Requirements and Desirables:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred but not required.
Previous work experience as a metal fabricator highly desired.
AWS certification and advanced welding experience (structural). Experience should include welding steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. GMAW and GTAW are our most common methods.
Advanced knowledge of engineering design and manufacturing procedures.
Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints.
Proficiency with metal fabrication tools including but aren’t limited to shears, rollers, flame and plasma cutters, and drill presses.
Deep skill set is highly valued. These would include sheet metal fabrication, less common joining methods (brazing, soldering, ect), advanced forming techniques (multi angle with coping, artistic ironworking), machining, waterjet operation experience.
Advanced mathematical and engineering skills.
Ability to lift and manipulate large metal objects.
Ability to stand for long periods.
This is a “Jack of all Trades” type of position, so skills in Mechanics, Electrical, Electronics, Carpentry, Painting, Sculpting, and Scenery are greatly valued.
