JOB SUMMARY: PERFORM ALL ASPECTS OF ROOFING FOR HUNT
ENTERPRISES
A roofer installs, repairs, and replaces roofs on residential and commercial buildings, working with a variety of materials like shingles, tiles, and metal. A roofer is also responsible for ensuring that roofs are structurally sound and waterproof, preventing leaks and weather damage. The work is physically demanding and requires a strong focus on safety.
Duties and responsibilities
Inspections and estimates: A roofer inspects roofs for damage, wear, or leaks to determine the best course of action. They also measure the roof area to calculate the necessary materials and labor and provide cost estimates to management.
Installation: This involves removing old roofing systems, preparing the surface, and installing new materials, such as shingles, metal panels, or waterproofing membranes. They must cut and align materials precisely to fit around vents, chimneys, A/C units and walls.
Repair and maintenance: A roofer is skilled at locating and fixing leaks, replacing damaged materials including Fascia boards and applying protective coatings. They may also install vapor barriers and insulation to improve energy efficiency.
Site preparation and cleanup: Before work begins, roofers safely set up ladders, scaffolding, and hoisting equipment. They are also responsible for clearing debris and cleaning the site once the job is complete.
Safety protocols: A roofer must strictly follow all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and local safety regulations, which include using protective equipment and working safely at heights.
Required skills and qualifications
Physical stamina and strength: The job requires lifting heavy materials (often 50 pounds or more), climbing, bending, and kneeling for long periods, often in extreme weather conditions.
Balance and comfort with heights: Roofers must be comfortable working at great heights, including on steep and sloped roofs.
Attention to detail: Precision in measuring, cutting, and installing materials is critical to ensure the roof is watertight and durable.
Basic math skills: A good grasp of basic arithmetic is needed to calculate measurements, material quantities, and costs.
Customer service skills: Roofers interact with clients to discuss project details and provide updates, making good communication skills important.
Knowledge of tools: Proficiency with various hand and power tools, such as nail guns, hammers, and saws, is essential.
Certifications and licensing: Many employers require safety certifications that meet OSHA guidelines. Some states also require a roofer's license to operate. A valid driver's license is often necessary for traveling to job sites.
Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose problems and produce effective solutions.
Teamwork: Must be able to collaborate effectively with other roofers and laborers.
Communication: Clear communication with management and team members is essential.
At least 5 years’ roofing experience preferred. Must possess a valid driver license and provide all the necessary documents required by the government for employment. Must be physically able to lift at least 50 lbs.
