Job Title: Lead Framer

Reports To: General Superintendent

Job Summary:

Pacific Builders in Arcata, CA is seeking an experienced and skilled Lead Framer to join our team. The Lead Framer will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the framing aspect of various construction projects, ensuring that all framing work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all building codes and specifications. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a comprehensive understanding of carpentry and framing techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and Lead Crew: Manage and direct a team of framers, carpenters, and laborers, ensuring the efficient completion of all framing tasks on time and within budget.

Project Planning: Review blueprints, architectural plans, and other project documents to understand the scope and design of the framing work. Work with the project manager to plan tasks and allocate resources.

Framing Execution: Lead the construction of the structural framework, including walls, floors, roofs, and ceilings, using wood, steel, or other materials.

Ensure Quality and Safety: Ensure that all framing work meets safety standards, building codes, and project specifications. Implement safety protocols to protect workers and avoid hazards.

Material Management: Ensure proper handling and storage of materials and maintain an inventory of tools and supplies needed for framing tasks.

Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve framing issues or obstacles that arise during construction, and make adjustments as necessary, to keep the project on track.

Inspection and Documentation: Perform quality checks and inspections to verify that all framing work is up to code and meets company standards. Maintain accurate recordsof work completed.

Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and subcontractors to ensure smooth coordination between trades on the job site.

Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance and training to junior framers and apprentices to foster skills development and maintain high standards of work.

Skills & Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a framer, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of framing techniques, blueprint reading, and construction methods. Proficient in using carpentry tools and equipment.

Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team. Strong communication skills to effectively relay instructions and expectations.

Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues quickly and provide practical solutions on the job site.

Safety Knowledge: In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations and safety practices in the construction industry.

Physical Stamina: Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting, bending, and working at heights.

Certifications: OSHA certification, First Aid/CPR, or any relevant certifications are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with different framing materials (e.g., wood, metal framing)

Ability to read and interpret structural engineering plans

Work Environment:

Primarily outdoor, on construction sites

Exposure to various weather conditions

May require work in noisy, dusty, or hot environments

Compensation:

Salary: $35+ an hour, depending on experience
