Great full time, seasonal job! Employment is through the Processing Tomato Advisory Board. We inspect tomatoes from the loads that are being delivered to the processor. They stop at our dedicated inspection stations, and a small sample is conveyed to us from each load. Inspection stations are in Los Banos and Firebaugh. Most inspectors are needed for the Los Banos area. Ability to read, write, and speak English is required.
Inspection begins mid-July and runs until about mid-October, and proceeds 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Inspectors would be assigned to work either day shift or night shift, typically 4 or 5 days a week. But, the hours and days can vary. There is a two-hour live online training session before the season begins.
Our inspection stations are not enclosed. The platform where inspection is performed is fully open on at least one side, and at most stations on two sides, so that there is a constant exchange with outside air. Six inspectors at most are working at one time on the platform (most stations have fewer than six). Our workflow is laid out so that social distancing is maintained. In the rare instance, if at any station two work spots are closer than six feet, plexiglass shields will be in place. Masks and gloves are required and will be provided. Hand sanitizer is on site and surfaces will be disinfected each hour. Break times will be staggered and sufficient locations for distancing will be available. In addition, all local guidelines that are in place during the season will be followed.
Applications will be taken in an outdoor setting alongside our office. Masks are required to apply. Wages are $13.76 to $14.64, depending on proof of current auto insurance and a valid driver’s license.
