The City of Modesto is currently recruiting for a Pool Site Coordinator to join our team. The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department works closely with the community providing programming to youth, seniors and all citizens. As a department, we take our work seriously, but try not to take ourselves too seriously. We strive to foster a collaborative and collegial atmosphere among staff while providing high quality programs, activities and events to the community and neighborhoods. This position is responsible to plan, organize, direct and supervise staff at an aquatic program in an assigned swimming pool(s) and implementing and coordinating all aspects of specific programs, including meeting the program objectives.

The ideal candidate should have the heart of a teacher/mentor to both their staff and community. This position requires the staff member to be the on-site leader and go-to person for a team of lifeguards, pool staff, and the public participating in our programs.

This is an hourly position, limited to working approximately 1000 hours annually. This position is non-benefitted and is designated as a non-classified, at-will position.

Screening Process

Applicants will be assessed on the application materials submitted. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications of the position will be placed on an eligible list and invited to a selection interview with the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of

Practices and techniques to achieve favorable public relations and appearance that projects a positive image.

Principles and practices of life guarding and water safety.

First Aid, CPR, and emergency medical methods and procedures.

Proper pool supervision techniques.

Light pool maintenance and pool water chemistry.

Water safety instructions.

Light custodial maintenance techniques.

Ability to

Accommodate flexible work schedule, which may include evenings, weekdays, weekend and holidays.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Perform water rescue if necessary.

Learn City and Service Area Methods, rules, policies, ordinances and requirements.

Maintain timely and accurate reports.

Learn the operation of various computer software programs.

Understand, carry out and assign oral and written directions.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.

Develop favorable public relations and maintain an appearance that projects a positive image.

Think and react clearly, quickly and accurately in emergencies.

Lift and carry heavy objects; run forward, backward and laterally.

Demonstrate beginning through advanced swim strokes and lifesaving techniques.

Travel from worksite to worksite as needed.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Any combination of education and experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Six (6) months part-time experience as a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor or closely related experience.

Training:

Ability to read and write at a level necessary for acceptable job performance, including the ability to follow and to interpret written instructions and to perform basic arithmetic.

Licenses/Certificates:

Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate within six (6) months of appointment.

Possession of a Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Certificate within six (6) months of appointment.

American Red Cross Title 22 Certificate within one (1) year of appointment.

NOTE: Based on department approval, equivalent certifications may be accepted.

Failure to obtain any of the required certificates within the prescribed time may result in release from probation or termination.

Additional Requirements:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

May required some holiday and evening work assignments.

NOTE: If hired, you will be required to be fingerprinted at time of appointment, in compliance with Section 10911-5 of the Education Code and Section 5164 of the Public Resources Code. In addition, it is the City's policy to not hire individuals convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude, including but no limited to:an offense involving conduct requiring registration pursuant to Penal Code Section 290 (sex offender); an offense involving sexual misconduct with children; and offense involving prostitution (including solicitation).
