Targeted salary range:$104,900 - $134,00; relocation assistance available for those moving from out of the area.

The Role:

This role will oversee the delivery of Aquarium Education programs, with the goal of elevating and equipping young changemakers to innovate solutions for a healthy ocean. Collaborate with Education Operations as well as staff to ensure that school audiences are equitably served; ensure the physical and emotional safety of all youth participants; co-lead the development and execution of the strategic plan, the creation and implementation of departmental visions. Create a work culture of equity and accountability; coach staff in their professional development goals; recruit new staff members; and effectively communicate Education’s long-term vision, strategic plan, and annual work plan. Perform other duties as required.

Breakdown of responsibilities:

15% - Develop a clear vision and direction for delivery-heavy Education Program Areas (e.g., Youth Programs, Field Trip Programs).

15% - Oversee team performance, creating a positive culture of accountability

10% - Oversee the creation and implementation of annual work plans for Program Areas.

10% - Develop and implement systems to support the physical and emotional safety of all youth and adult participants, both on-site and in the field.

10% - Develop processes, procedures, and systems that ensure participant and impact data is accurately captured, maintained, secured, and reported, in collaboration with Education Operations staff and other Aquarium Divisions.

10% - Develop a structure for supporting undergraduate students

5% - Build and maintain relationships with other organizations offering similar programs across professional associations

5% - Co-create systems and processes for facility vendors, facility maintenance, and facility use, to ensure the Education Division has the necessary facilities to offer high-quality short-term significant life experiences to youth, in collaboration with the Education Facilities team.

5% - Define program evaluation requirements for Program Areas.

5% - Identify opportunities to publish articles around our programs and processes, and support staff in the publishing process.

5% - Represent Education on Aquarium-wide committees and work teams, as needed.

5% - Stay abreast of current trends, methods, and research

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree with an emphasis in natural science, formal or informal education, curriculum design, or professional development; or seven years’ experience in a related field with significant coursework

7-10 years of supervisory and leadership experience

Demonstrated success creating and implementing complex, logistics-intensive programming

Extensive experience ensuring the safety of youth

Experience with various learning technologies and evaluation

Some experience with Animal Care is preferred

Proven data management skills, specifically with CRMs such as Salesforce

Experience co-creating and implementing strategic plans

Demonstrated success leading teams 

Demonstrated success overseeing projects 

A high degree of versatility and ability to prioritize and coordinate a variety of competing priorities concurrently and meet deadlines

Experience developing and monitoring budgets

Strong and effective interpersonal skills

Excellent verbal communication and formal writing skills

Able to perform under heavy deadline pressures and solve problems resourcefully

Able to maintain a broad perspective while focusing on tasks and details 

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, both personally and through the development of equitable education programs

Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain clearance in the DMV Pull Program
