Title: Program Coordinator

Part-time, approx. 20-60 hours per month depending on number of classrooms served
$20/hour

Children are the heart of the Read to Me Project, a prevention-based, innovative program that helps children achieve kindergarten readiness and a lifetime of literacy by empowering upper-elementary age brothers and sisters to read to their young siblings at home. The Read to Me Project vision is: Every child entering kindergarten is prepared to succeed.
Position Summary: Currently serving under-resourced schools in the Salinas Valley and the Monterey Peninsula, we are seeking highly organized individuals to become Read to Me Project Program Coordinators, advocates with the ability to inspire teacher participation and build rapport with those teachers. The Program Coordinator is trained to prepare, coordinate and oversee all aspects of project implementation including: conducting presentations to 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes about the program, coaching students to read more effectively to their little ones, preparing books-bins for use in the classrooms, managing student surveys, and generally taking responsibility for successful program outcomes in assigned classrooms. Teaching or presenting skills are highly desirable. The individual with bilingual/bicultural skills (Spanish/English) may also be asked to conduct parent presentations, but this is not a requirement.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
Participate in staff training sessions and team meetings
Manage and implement the program, with great attention to detail, in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classrooms in assigned schools according to a specific timeline:
ª Provide classroom teachers and administrators with clear, accurate and regular communications
ª Conduct orientations to students and teachers
ª Manage and organize program forms
ª Administer surveys. Collect and manage data
ª Train student assistants to check books in and out
ª Coach students several times during the year
ª Review classroom reading-logs, identify and resolve any challenges teachers and/or students may have
ª Maintain regular communications with supervisor
ª Plan, schedule and execute Read to Me Project curriculum events in schools
ª Prepare, deliver, maintain and inventory classroom book-bins
ª Conduct bilingual Parent Education Sessions (if applicable to ability)

Also Required:
Bachelors Degree (in education preferred but not required), or significant progress toward its achievement
Computer skills to include Excel, Outlook, Google Docs
Able to travel to program sites
Meet all state required conditions of valid California Drivers License
Ability to lift 30-35lbs
Fingerprints and Background checks: All personnel working in public schools with children must complete fingerprinting and a background check requirement. (Cost covered by Read to Me Project)
TB Test: Required by all personnel working in schools. (Cost covered by Read to Me Project)
Helpful, but not required: Fluent bilingual/bicultural English/Spanish
Hours: It is important to note that the weekly work schedule will be varied based on school and Read to Me Project implementation schedules. However, work will be conducted during school hours with occasional exceptions. Program coordinators are required to follow implementation timelines throughout the school year, September through June, and complete other duties at other times.
