SUMMARY: The House of Peace House Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a supportive, compassionate, and empowering experience for the residents of the House of Peace, a transitional living community for persons that have experienced chronic homelessness. Responsibilities include management of the facility, resident development, mentorship, mediation, conflict resolution and setting the example of living by the House of Peace Charter.

The Franciscan Workers of Junipero Serra is a 501(c)3 organization that provides meals, shelter and services to people challenged with poverty and homelessness at Dorothy’s Place Hospitality Center in Salinas. We believe that compassion and hospitality along with respect for human dignity is vitally important in meeting wellness needs. House of Peace is a transitional living program that promotes and provides safety, stability, and well-being for 24 adults who have experienced chronic homelessness. Living together as a community, the residents support each other toward positive, healthier lifestyles. The House of Peace provides structure and supportive services including counseling, linkage to community resources, educational direction, financial and literacy programs, as well as assistance with benefit applications, employment readiness, and job searches. With case management services on site, residents have consistent contact with someone who can help them navigate obstacles and experience successes toward an end goal of attaining sustainable permanent housing. Currently we take referrals from the Monterey/San Benito Continuum of Care’s coordinated entry system, which serves our area’s most health-vulnerable people and assists them into housing. We also reserve a limited number of rooms for people we hire into staff positions while they’re still in a state of homelessness. There is a Housing Coordinator present each evening –and an additional staff member that is present for the high-activity portion of most evenings before bedtime.
