UnChained is seeking a compassionate and skilled Program Dog Trainer to lead hands-on training sessions with shelter dogs alongside justice-involved youth at Monterey County Juvenile Hall.
This is more than a training role—it’s an opportunity to help shape the future of UnChained and the community we serve. Each session you lead helps youth rediscover patience and purpose while shelter dogs learn trust and readiness for adoption. Together, those small daily moments ripple outward into stronger families and safer neighborhoods.
If you believe that change begins with calm leadership, empathy, and structure, this role is for you. You’ll mentor young people through the power of positive-reinforcement training—helping both human and canine learn what it means to feel safe, seen, and capable again.
Responsibilities
Teach and guide youth in humane, positive-reinforcement dog training.
Oversee safe, consistent routines for shelter dogs in care.
Collaborate with facility staff and UnChained team members.
Keep clear, simple notes on each dog’s progress and behavior.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of professional dog-handling or training experience.
Strong knowledge of force-free, positive-reinforcement, and science-based training methods.
Comfort working within structured environments directly with youth present.
Excellent communication and emotional-regulation skills.
Schedule & Pay
Part-time · 5–8 hours per week · $25–$40/hour depending on experience.
Location: Monterey County Juvenile Hall (Salinas, CA).
Start Date: Immediately (October 2025).
