Grocery Department Manager

The iconic Nielsen Brothers Market in Carmel-by-the-Sea is under new ownership and is seeking a dynamic Grocery Department Manager. We're transitioning to an all-natural assortment so previous experience with natural, organic and artisan grocery products is essential. Job Description

The Grocery Manager is accountable for all department operations. Responsibilities include team member hiring, training, and development, buying and merchandising products, scheduling, managing financial performance, inventory control, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned.

Team Member Development

· Timely, thorough and thoughtful performance evaluations.

· Interview, select, train, develop, and counseling employees in a manner, which builds and sustains a high performing team and minimizes turn over.

· Make hiring decisions with guidance of Store Manager & Assistant Store Manager.

· Establish and maintain a positive work environment, which sustains an exceptionally high level of employee morale.

· Select and develop supervisors as potential department managers.

· Provide Communication and maintain employee safety and security standards

Financial Management

· Manage inventory and pricing to achieve targeted gross profit margin.

· Achieve budgeted expense levels. Achieve department profit, and store profit contribution targets.

· Maintain exceptional level of customer service relations.

· Maintain awareness of new products, and regularly incorporate new products into overall product mix.

· Manage the buying/ordering process to meet Nielsen Brothers Market's quality standards, maintain competitive pricing and achieve targeted sales.

· Establish and maintain positive and productive vendor relationships.

Merchandising/Marketing Management

· Work with the store leadership team to develop appropriate seasonal merchandising plans.

· Sustain exceptional level of knowledge/awareness of relevant competitors and industry trends.

Communication

· Establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationship with the store leadership team.

· Model and cultivate effective inter-department and inter-store communication.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
