The Phoenix Shop in Big Sur is looking to fill a full time Buyer position who will be purchasing merchandise in the following departments – Books, Toys, Stationery and Specialty Foods.
We are looking for an individual who has experience in purchasing for a retail store. The Phoenix shop sells wares from all over the world, including books from local authors, boutique and local hand-knit clothing, musical instruments, ceramics, handcrafted local jewelry, garden accoutrements, stationary, paintings by local artists and so much more.
General Buyer Position Summary:
- To achieve Phoenix Shop Merchandising Values (uniqueness, beauty, color, sense of place, family and gift oriented), Sales and Gross Margin goals through the proper purchasing of merchandise in departments – Books, Toys, Stationery and Specialty Foods.
Essential Buyer Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- To develop a Merchandising Strategy for the department(s) consistent with Phoenix Shop Merchandising Values and taking into consideration, guest profile, classification, resource structure, major vendors, fashion trends, items, and price points.
- To develop and achieve planned goals in sales, markup, markdowns, shortage, turnover, gross profit, gross margin, and controllable elements of net profit.
- To control open-to-buy, stock levels, and deliveries in order to stay within stock plan and to increase gross margin.
