ABOUT THE POSITION: The City of Monterey currently has one Electrician vacancy. The Electrician is a full-time position in the Building Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department for the City of Monterey. The Building Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all City-owned and Presidio of Monterey facilities. The successful candidate will have solid electrical experience including troubleshooting, diagnosing, new installation, and repair and maintenance of existing electrical components. Experience performing this work in a commercial building setting is desirable. Possession of a California Electrician Certificate is also desirable. He or she will have a proven track record or performing this work safely and efficiently. Electricians will work as part of a team and independently and are responsible to provide quality customer service to both internal and external customers. This position may be assigned to work shifts outside of the standard 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. work hours. The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a military background check.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates who are determined to meet the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities will be required to participate in a hands-on skills assessment that will test their electrical skills.

Salary: $84,240.00 - $102,384.00 Annually

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Successful completion of a state-accredited four or five-year Electrician Apprenticeship Program. A list of California approved schools are available at the DIR site: https://www.dir.ca.gov/databases/das/aigstart.asp

OR

Experience: Five years of full-time experience in all phases of work as an Electrician. Qualifying experience MUST include commercial or industrial wiring, installation and repair of electrical conduit systems.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

Must possess a valid California Driver’s License upon time of appointment and be insurable with the City’s standard insurance rate, unless otherwise approved by appointing authority.

Certified and licensed to perform electrical work in the state of California is desirable.
