Visit dignityhealth.org/northridgehospital for more information.Northridge Hospital Medical CenterREGISTERED NURSE - GastroenterologyOur gastrointestinal laboratory is a fully functioning diagnostic and interventional department with a specialty in esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and colonoscopy.ERCPEndoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) enables the physician to diagnose problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas.EGDEsophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is an examination of the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and upper duodenum with a small camera (flexible endoscope) which is inserted down the throat.ColonoscopyThis is an endoscopic examination of the colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube. It may provide a visual diagnosis (ulcers, polyps) and grants the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected lesions.Our LaboratoryThe Gastrointestinal Services Laboratory is open to outpatient appointments Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.The Gastro-Intestinal Unit at Northridge Hospital Medical Center is actively seeking an individual who demonstrates patient care excellence. We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Gastro-Intestinal Services unit that provides professional nursing care to patients of all ages in accordance with individual needs, physician based on competence, professional expertise, knowledge and evidence-based practice. The Registered Nurse is expected to practice autonomously, consistent with professional standards, Nurse Practice Act and hospital job description specific to the unit. This position is critical to the success of Northridge Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission and organizational values of the Dignity Health system.In addition Dignity Health has made the conscious decision to implement solutions that will improve patient care outcomes and nursing competencies. Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environmental, infection control standards, Nurse Practices Act and Patient's Bill of Rights.

Applies clinical knowledge and expertise for coordinating patient care by regularly planning and evaluating the care of patients.

Establishes and maintains professional and collaborative relationships with other staff members, physicians, patients, patient family members, and the public as appropriate, while assuring confidentiality of all patient information.

Demonstrates effective nursing judgement and a working knowledge of the nursing process.

Provides guidance to interdisciplinary team members by supervising nursing interventions and assisting with related tasks.

Documents and communicates all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in the patient condition to the appropriate member of the interdisciplinary health care team.

Communicates the plan of care to the patient and care partner(s) for the active involvement of the patient in the evolution of the plan throughout hospitalization.

Conducts hourly rounds with the patient and care partner, focusing on pain management, skin integrity, elimination and other miscellaneous patient needs.

Demonstrates a professional, cooperative manner when dealing with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team.

Administers medications to assigned patients as directed and assesses and documents patient responses; initiates appropriate interventions per Hospital/Unit policy.

Demonstrates an understanding of the approaches to and methods of Process Improvement.

May be required to respond to on-call for department needs, being readily available for urgent and emergent on-call cases per department need and schedule.

Serves as a preceptor and role model to new personnel and nursing students. Collaborates with the Supervisory Staff to identify own educational and professional growth needs.

Maintains schedules and coordinates procedures in a timely manner according to department protocol.

Documents pre and postoperative care, medications given during procedures and patient reactions. Is responsible for all specimens collected and dispatches them appropriately.

Maintains flexible working hours dependent upon the needs of patients and physicians.

Is responsible for continuing education in the gastroenterology field, and participates in national and regional societies.

Participates in the quality assessment and improvement activities ongoing in the GI Endoscopic Center.

Demonstrates ability to obtain information, understand the range of treatment, have knowledge of conscious sedation and amount of drugs used and titrated, and be able to instruct patients in post-operative care. Care of patients includes ages from neonate, pediatrics, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Minimum 1 year current acute care registered nursing experience in specialty area/ Ortho required.

Minimum 1 year acute care experience required

Current certification in specialty area preferred.

Experience with EHR (Cerner MediTech etc?) preferred.

Registered Nurse with current California License required.

Current AHA BLS card required.

LA City Fire Care required within 90 days of hire.

This position is represented by SEIU L121 and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.Pay Range$54.16 - $71.28 /hourWe are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
