Construction Project Engineer

General Job Description:

This position will collaborate closely and will be reporting to the Construction Project Manager and be responsible for the technical coordination of assigned projects. This includes fostering clear and consistent communication among all disciplines and project team members, including clients, architects, and vendors. This role offers the opportunity to further hone your expertise in estimating, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, and design within our dynamic design-build construction process, leveraging the latest technologies and BIM methodologies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Meeting Coordination & Documentation

Schedule and facilitate internal and external project meetings. (internal, client, subcontractor).

Prepare and distribute accurate and timely meeting minutes using ProCore.

Track and follow up on action items to ensure accountability and closure.

Submittal Management

Coordinate submission, review, and tracking of all project submittals using ProCore.

Maintain submittal log and ensure timely processing aligned with the project schedule.

Work closely with designers and subcontractors to resolve submittal issues.

RFI Management

Prepare and submit RFIs in coordination with field and design teams.

Track RFI responses and ensure timely follow ups and distribution to relevant stakeholders using ProCore.

Procurement & Buyouts

Assist with procurement tracking and follow-up on material lead times.

Support subcontractor buyouts, including scope alignment, quote comparisons, and contract support.

Maintain updated procurement and buyout logs.

Schedule Support

Assist in schedule development and updates in coordination with the project team.

Track delivery dates, submittal approvals, and milestone activities.

Update schedules weekly and help maintain short-interval lookahead schedules.

Change Order Management

Review and evaluate subcontractor change order proposals, ensuring accuracy and proper backup.

Create and input change events in Procore for Project Manager review and approval.

Assist in preparing and tracking subcontractor change orders, including cost impacts and supporting documentation.

Maintain a detailed change order log to ensure alignment with project budget, scope, and client expectations.

Estimating Support

Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with bid-leveling and scope reviews.

Support preconstruction estimating and cost studies during the design phase.

Contribute to value engineering and budget control exercises.

Insurance & Compliance Tracking

Collect and monitor subcontractor insurance certificates, bonds, and licenses.

Track expiration dates and follow up to ensure compliance with contract terms.

Closeout & Punch List Management

Coordinate the submission of closeout documents, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranties.

Assist with punch list tracking, resolution, and documentation during final stages of the project.

Support the team in organizing final inspections and turnover meetings.

Client Communication & Relationship Management

Support client coordination by preparing updates, distributing meeting materials, and responding to project inquiries.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients through clear communication and follow-through.

Assist Project Manager with client-facing presentations, progress reports, and documentation requests.

Ensure all project communications maintain a professional and solutions-oriented tone.

Foster a strong relationship with VDBG’s internal departments (i.e. Construction, Architecture, Accounting, etc.)

Other tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor and/or upper management.

Position Requirements:

3-5 years experience in Construction Management, or related field.

Experience and Career Progression: Progression from Project Engineer I to Project Engineer II, III, or a Senior role is based on performance, experience, and demonstrated leadership potential.

Proficiency in Construction management software - ProCore, Bluebeam, MS Project and Microsoft Office Suite.

Familiarity with construction documents (drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs).

Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Hours:

This is a non-exempt position, Monday through Friday. Work hours begin and end between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, with a one-hour break for lunch and two breaks or 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a thirty-minute lunch break. Occasional overtime may be necessary for business needs as authorized by the owner.

Travel:

Based on business needs to and from the primary office to job sites, City planning and building departments and construction errands.

Competitive Wages:

$25.00 to $35.00 per hour. Applicants, please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
