Job Responsibilities for Lab Assistant:
Sample Preparation and Handling:
Collect, label, and process samples (e.g., blood, tissue, or other specimens) for testing or analysis.
Ensure proper storage and disposal of samples in compliance with laboratory protocols.
Accessioning:
Accurately log and track incoming samples into the laboratory information system (LIS) or database.
Verify sample information, including patient details, test requests, and specimen integrity.
Assign unique identification numbers or barcodes to samples for proper tracking throughout the testing process.
Laboratory Maintenance:
Clean and sterilize lab equipment, glassware, and workstations to maintain a safe and organized environment.
Monitor and maintain inventory of lab supplies, reagents, and chemicals, and reorder as needed.
Data Recording and Documentation:
Accurately record and organize experimental data, results, and observations.
Maintain detailed and up-to-date lab notebooks and electronic records.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate and maintain standard lab equipment (e.g., centrifuges, microscopes, pipettes, and autoclaves).
Perform routine calibration and troubleshooting of equipment as needed.
Compliance and Safety:
Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with team members to support ongoing projects and research.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues regarding lab activities and findings.
Additional Duties:
Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, filing, and report preparation as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the laboratory.
This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
