Job description:

Position Summary

The Injection Molding Tooling Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing injection molds to ensure reliable production, consistent quality, and minimal downtime. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting tooling issues, collaborating with process technicians, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives in the molding department.

This is NOT an Injection Mold Operator or Machinist role. Instead, we are looking for someone with hands-on experience working with injection mold tools and mold parts, specifically in assembling, disassembling, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining injection molding components.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on injection molding tools and molds.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair tooling-related issues to minimize production downtime.

Disassemble, clean, and reassemble molds as needed to maintain part quality and tool performance.

Collaborate with process technicians and production teams to resolve part quality issues related to tooling.

Conduct inspections of tooling components (cores, cavities, slides, lifters, cooling circuits, etc.) to identify wear or damage.

Document all tooling maintenance, repairs, and modifications in the maintenance system.

Support mold changeovers by ensuring tooling is properly prepped, maintained, and ready for production.

Assist with design improvements and modifications to molds to enhance tool life and product quality.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company safety standards.

Assist in spare parts inventory management for tooling components.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and 5S practices.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or mold-making apprenticeship preferred.

3+ years of experience in injection molding tooling maintenance, mold repair, or related field.

Experience with mold disassembly/assembly, polishing, welding, or machining a plus.

Skills & Knowledge:

Strong knowledge of injection molding tooling systems and components.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and mold design documents.

Basic machining, grinding, and welding skills desirable.

Familiarity with hot runner systems and troubleshooting.

Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and cooling circuits in tooling.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Machining components on a mill and lathe

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

Manual dexterity and attention to detail for precision work.

Willingness to work overtime or different shifts as needed.
