Key Responsibilities
Installation
Install a wide variety of doors — residential, commercial, industrial and security — including automatic sliding doors, revolving doors, fire-rated doors, garage doors and manual doors constructed of materials such as wood, metal and glass.
Set frames, align tracks/guides, anchor structural supports, and ensure doors meet manufacturer specifications and building codes.
Fabricate or adjust hardware/fittings as needed (e.g., brackets, support frames) and, where required, use welding or fabrication to adapt installations.
Repair & Maintenance
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in door systems: springs, cables, rollers, hinges, locking mechanisms, openers, sensors, and control panels.
Repair or replace worn, broken or mis-adjusted components; test and re-adjust systems to restore proper operation.
Perform routine preventive maintenance: inspect, lubricate, adjust, and ensure door assemblies function safely and reliably.
Technical Skills
Operate a variety of hand and power tools (grinders, welders, drills, saws, lifts, ladders) as well as specialized tools for doors/hardware.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, manufacturer manuals and door hardware shop drawings.
Work with low-voltage wiring and electronic components (control boards, sensors, access control interfaces) as well as mechanical door hardware.
If required, perform welding or fabrication on site: cutting, grinding, welding, assembling custom metal parts or supports.
Customer Service
Interact directly with clients, contractors or facility managers: assess needs, explain issues, offer recommendations for repairs or new installations.
Communicate clearly — describing what work is needed, what has been done, any changes from specification, and end‐user instructions for safe operation.
Represent the company professionally on site, ensuring customer satisfaction and follow-through on job completion/documentation.
Safety & Compliance
Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, industry standards and applicable building/fire codes (including for fire-rated doors, emergency exits, access control, ADA compliance).
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices when working at heights, with heavy lifting, welding/fabrication, electrical wiring, and in variable weather or industrial environments.
Ensure installations and repairs comply with manufacturer specifications, building code requirements and applicable standards (e.g., for fire doors, access control, automatic door systems).
Administrative Tasks
Complete required paperwork: time sheets, job‐orders, service reports, material/parts usage logs, inspection checklists and job completion documentation.
Maintain accurate inventory of tools, parts and materials in service truck/van, request restocking when needed, and keep vehicle/truck organized and presentable.
Report job site conditions, inefficiencies, shortages or unexpected conditions to supervisor/dispatcher in a timely manner.
Physical Demands
Lift, carry, push and pull heavy doors and components (often 75 + lbs), climb ladders, scaffolds or use lifts, kneel, bend, stand and walk for extended periods.
Work outdoors or in indoor industrial/commercial settings in varied conditions (weather, dust, noise, heights) and perform physically demanding tasks.
Be prepared for on-call or emergency repair situations, occasional overtime, working evenings or weekends when required.
