JOB TITLE: Landscape Superintendent

STATUS AND PAY: Exempt, Salaried (40 hours per week minimum on premises)

Annual Salary $115,000-$125,000

ASSIGNMENT SUMMARY:

As the Landscape Superintendent, you will take direction from, and complete daily tasks assigned by the Chief Operating Officer. Oversee the activity and performance of department staff and promote the highest level of safety compliance and performance from all landscape staff and ensure that duties are being performed safely and within policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Minimum bachelor’s degree, turf management, or related field.

10+ years of supervisory and landscape or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.

Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.

Experience managing personnel, overseeing daily production, scheduling and monitoring operation costs.

Ability to evaluate landscapes, diagnose insect and disease problems, plant identification knowledge and horticulture practices.

Understanding of budget management, forecasting and expense tracking.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform landscape superintendent and supervisory activities for The Morningside Community Association. These duties include but are not limited to:

Create, implement, and execute a maintenance plan and budget for the landscape department operation.

Oversee the procurement, maintenance, operation, and utilization of all maintenance equipment and supplies.

Oversee the process of interviewing, hiring, counseling, training, and disciplining all maintenance staff in coordination with Human Resources.

Navigate and maintain permit requirements and ensure compliance with landscaping regulations.

Consistently train and coach staff to maintain a high level of performance and safety.

Enforce safe protocols and procedures in mowing, tree trimming, fertilization, etc.

Mentor and train crew to improve landscape staff quality of work and job performance.

Conduct daily thorough property inspections and ensure compliance by overseeing daily employee activities.

Always stress the importance of safety and the quality of tasks performed by landscape staff.

Assist in development of training topics, procedures and improvements to operations.

Maintain accurate records and safe storage pertaining to chemicals and fertilization.

Demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures and Material Safety Data Sheets particular to departmental hazards.

Resolve non-routine problems as needed.

Represent The Morningside Community Association in a positive and professional manner including attitude, appearance and speech.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.

Reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.

Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.

Exposure to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.

MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:

Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record and certification and /or license for pesticide, chemicals, and heavy equipment usage.
