JOB TITLE: Landscape Supervisor
STATUS: Exempt, Salaried (40 hours per week minimum on premises)
ASSIGNMENT SUMMARY: As the Landscape Supervisor, you will take direction from, and complete daily tasks assigned by the Landscape Superintendent. Supervise the activity and performance of department staff and promote the highest level of safety compliance and performance from all landscape staff and ensure that duties are being performed safely and within policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
· Minimum bachelor’s degree.
· 10+ years of supervisory and landscape or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Required writing, reading, and fluent and proficient of the English language.
· Bilingual required (Spanish speaking).
· Ability to be an effective leader.
· Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
· Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.
· Experience managing personnel, overseeing daily production, scheduling and monitoring operation costs.
· Equipment (i.e. forklift, backhoe) operation experience.
· Ability to evaluate landscapes, diagnose insect and disease problems, plant identification knowledge and horticulture practices.
· Proficiency in sending and receiving email messages, attaching files, using a word and excel, understanding file management, posting messages and navigating the Internet.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION
· Possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License with a good driving record.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS
· Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with staff, homeowners and vendors.
· Demonstrate familiarity with Landscape/Horticulture.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
· Reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
· Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.
· Exposure to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
SAFTEY PRECAUTIONS REQUIRED
· Demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures and Material Safety Data Sheets particular to departmental hazards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform landscape supervisory activities for The Morningside Community Association. These duties include but are not limited to:
SAFETY
· Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure compliance by overseeing daily employee activities.
SUPERVISE
· Consistently train and coach staff to maintain high level of performance and safety.
· Supervise and train crew in safe work procedures in mowing, tree trimming, fertilization, etc.
· Supervise all landscape personnel duties, including planning, scheduling, organizing and directing work.
· Meet with employees throughout the day to ensure work is being completed timely.
· Mentor and train crew to improve landscape staff quality of work and job performance.
· Fill in for the Landscape Superintendent when necessary.
· Assist the Landscape Superintendent in the hiring, training, promotion, demotion and termination process for landscape staff, as needed.
· Assist Landscape Superintendent in resolving non-routine problems.
· Assist the Landscape Superintendent with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for landscape staff.
· Assist Landscape Superintendent with performance evaluations for landscape staff.
· Assist in investigating complaints from homeowners or employees, as needed.
INVENTORY
· Maintain ongoing inventory list of tools and supplies. Ensure that inventory and supplies are secured on site.
· Ensure proper inventory levels are maintained for equipment and materials to perform landscape and general maintenance services.
· Assist in developing the landscape department annual budget.
· Oversee purchasing of all parts, supplies and equipment related materials.
PAYROLL
· Every two weeks print and compile timecards to submit to accounting for payroll processing.
· Oversee all time off requests, scheduling and timecards for the department.
· Track staff attendance and work performance.
APPEARANCE
· Always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor (i.e. proper hygiene, hair combed, appropriate uniform, etc.).
· Ensure daily compliance of landscape staff to maintain a professional appearance and arrive at work in their designated uniform. Ensure uniforms are neat and in good condition.
