Camp Manager

Camp McCumber is seeking a full-time camp Manager to provide fiscal management, group user contracting, camp facilities, housekeeping, kitchen services, and employee management.

Camp McCumber has been changing the lives of our youth for over 65 years. Located 40 miles east of Redding and adjacent to the nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park, Camp McCumber is situated on 40 wooded acres on Lake McCumber in the community of Shingletown in Shasta County California, offering a rustic setting with all the amenities and lots of fun.

Most of the summer season is packed with summer youth camps from mid-June to early-August. We are working on expanding our calendar which will be a priority for the new manager.

Camp McCumber Corporation, a 501c3, is 100% non-profit, and managed by non-profit Member Organizations, who assign volunteers to the Camp McCumber Board of Directors. Our Member Organizations are the Lions District 4-C1, and the Shasta Family YMCA.

Compensation will be based on experience and includes a home at the camp.

General Description of the Job Duties Include:

Fiscal

Working with the board the manager will possess a good understanding of the budget. Process payments to ensure financial transactions are handled promptly with accurate record keeping. Keeping expenditures within the adopted budget. Advising the Board on a regular and timely basis regarding the camp season schedule and all revisions. Send, process, and receive all rental group contracts and other forms. Follow up on rental group contract requirements.

Camp User Groups

Being present at camp and available to groups at the check-in (arrival) and check-out (departure) times for each user group. Review camp rules and camp policies with the director or person in charge of each user group upon their arrival. Be accessible while user groups are occupying camp.

Camp Staffing

With guidance and assistance from the personnel committee, advertise, recruit, and make the selection of summer Camp Hosts, Kitchen manager, staff and other seasonal employees. Supervise the Kitchen Manager, camp ground hosts and other seasonal employees. Unless otherwise delegated the manager is responsible for all kitchen and housekeeping services. Obtain a Food Handler Certificate as required and ensure that all kitchen employees obtain one prior to employment.

Facilities

Receive reports from the Caretaker, help set maintenance priorities in preparation for camp opening and camp closing. Work with the Facilities Committee to ensure proper budgeting, possible grant opportunities and possible volunteer work opportunities. Accept and act upon reports of damage, crime and/or trespass. Keep the Board apprised of all matters pertaining to the facility.

Security

In conjunction with the Caretaker, when camp is in session, conduct security checks daily consisting of perimeter checks. Respond to rental groups' reports of trespassing or out-of-the-ordinary activities and complete a report for camp files if warranted. Greet rental groups, authorized work parties and individuals, and visitors upon their entrance to camp premises and show them the location of buildings, facilities, and activity areas. Conduct a full security check of all buildings a minimum of three times per week when camp is not in session. Follow through on any report of trespassing. Ensure that all buildings are kept locked when the camp is not in session or being used by the Corporation.

General Requirements

The Camp Manager(s) and any family members over the age of 18 living in the manager's residence must successfully complete a background check including Livescan fingerprinting. Camp McCumber is a drug, alcohol, tobacco, and vaping-free, smoking and vaping are permitted only in the public parking lot or off camp premises, regardless of whether camps are in session. Smoking is not permitted in the manager's residence. Use or possession of legal and illegal marijuana, recreational or prescribed, is always prohibited on the camp property. Animals or pets of any kind are not allowed on the camp premises except within the manager's residence and the fenced yard surrounding it. The Camp Board prefers no dogs.
