Founded in 1965, Shasta Head Start is dedicated to providing comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, disabilities, and mental health services to low-income children and families. Shasta Head Start’s 285 staff serve nearly 900 children and families in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Trinity counties.

Position Summary

Complete weekly accounts payable functions, resolve accounts payable issues with vendors and staff, and maintain compliance with agency policy and legal requirements. General ledger functions and compliance reporting and payroll support.

Qualifications/Requirements

High School diploma or GED (Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred)

Equivalent combination of education and related experience of at least three (3) years.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and government regulations in fields relevant to position

Ability to write business correspondence and procedure manuals

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, community resources and regulatory agencies, employers, community groups, families, staff, and the general public

Ability to use basic math skills to compute rates, ratios, and percentages

Ability to solve practical problems in reconciling account balances and invoice variances

Ability to use MS Word, Excel, and accounting software systems with accuracy

Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, copier, calculator, etc.

Pre-employment requirements:

o Valid California Driver License and clean DMV record

o Criminal background check required

o Pre-Employment Strength Assessment

o Pre-Employment TB test

o Up to date records of pertussis, measles, and influenza vaccines

Responsibilities/Duties

Code all accounts payable invoices and check requests; review coding on purchase orders

Process weekly check runs as per Accounting and Purchasing Policies & Procedures, obtain required signatures, and distribute checks

Maintain contracts for all required payments

Complete accruals, account reconciliations, journal entries, compliance reports

Prepare in-kind reports

Payroll support

Perform other duties as assigned

Attend mandated trainings and meetings, and seek out staff development opportunities

The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lifts 50 pounds from floor to waist. The employee must be able to push/pull up to 75 pounds horizontally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
