Ophthalmology Medical Assistant

Position available for a back office assistant/technician for a private ophthalmology practice in Solano County (VACAVILLE/FAIRFIELD, CA)

We seek candidates with a neat, professional appearance who are experienced, self-motivated, hardworking and have good organizational, communication and people skills. You will be working directly with the doctors to assist in conducting the initial eye examination and perform diagnostic testing. We want to help you grow professionally through education and mentoring.

Primary responsibilities:

Daily responsibilities will involve mostly professional technical duties but will have some administrative components as well.

Professional will include:

obtaining patient history

performing preliminary exam of patient with standard tests and measurements prior to patients being seen by doctor

entering patient data into our computer EHR system

administer topical medications or diagnostic drugs prescribed by doctor

diagnostic imaging

set up and assist with in office minor surgical procedures

Administrative will include

greet patients and escort them to exam or testing areas

answer patient questions and help triage phone calls

gather medical records and patient information

help open and close exam and testing areas

you must be willing and able to assist in other tasks as needed by office

Skills - you should be proficient in:

history taking

acuity testing

pupillary assessment

visual field testing - confrontation and automated

ocular motility evaluation

lensometry - manual and automated

keratometry

refractometry - a plus

Qualifications and experience:

Previous experience in an ophthalmology medical office is a plus and ideally have completed a program in ophthalmic medical assisting. Certification by JCAHPO (COS, COA, COT, COMT) preferred

Candidates must aspire to excel at patient care and relationship building.

Must demonstrate confidence, motivation, and have a stable work history.

Ideal candidate should have outstanding communication and computer skills.

Must be organized, multi-task oriented, energetic and possess a positive, professional attitude.

Knowledge of ophthalmology/optometry, refractometry and COA or COT certification a plus!

Additional Salary Information:

This position is full time.

Monday-Thursday 8am to 5pm.

Friday 8am-2pm.
