We are a busy local trade printing company, located in West Sacramento seeking a skilled Cutter Operator to join our production team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining our paper-cutting equipment to deliver accurate, high-quality print jobs on time and efficiently. This is a hands-on role where your attention to detail, mechanical aptitude and focus on productivity and quality will make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review job tickets and specifications to determine sheet size, sequence, trim requirements, and cutter setup.
- Set up the cutter machine (adjust guides, input cut positions, align sheets) and run production according to specs.
- Load and unload stock on the cutter bed, jog/align sheets, initiate cuts, remove cut materials and stack for next operations.
- Monitor output continuously: inspect for accurate cut size, proper alignment, square edges, and finished quality.
- Perform routine maintenance: change blades, lubricate machine, clear jams, maintain safe and clean workspace.
- Meet productivity and quality standards: keep up with production schedule, minimise downtime, maintain waste at acceptable levels.
- Work collaboratively with press operators, bindery, pre-press, shipping/receiving teams to keep workflow smooth.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, wear protective equipment, and maintain machine area housekeeping.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proven experience operating a paper/print cutter machine (sheetfed, guillotine or similar) required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, able to make adjustments and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Excellent attention to detail: measuring, aligning, verifying cut quality.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs frequently, and manage material movement.
- Good communication skills, ability to work in a team and follow instructions.
- Ability to work under production pressure, meet deadlines, prioritise tasks, maintain accuracy.
- Familiarity with print production terminology and workflow is a plus.
