Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
Maintain case files, track deadlines, and manage case calendars.
Assist attorneys with managing multiple SIJS cases simultaneously.
Document Preparation and Filing:
Prepare legal documents, including petitions, affidavits, motions, and evidence for family and immigration court filings.
Draft and file forms such as Form I-360 (Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant) and Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status).
Client Interaction:
Conduct client intake interviews to gather information and assess eligibility for SIJS.
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide updates on case progress.
Work with clients to collect supporting documents such as birth certificates, proof of neglect/abuse, and court orders.
Court and Agency Liaison:
Coordinate with family court to obtain necessary findings regarding abuse, neglect, or abandonment by one or both parents.
Communicate with USCIS and other immigration agencies as needed.
Research and Advocacy:
Conduct legal research on immigration laws, regulations, and case law relevant to SIJS.
Support attorneys in advocacy efforts and preparation for court appearances.
Collaboration:
Work closely with attorneys, social workers, and interpreters to ensure client needs are met.
Liaise with external organizations and government agencies to gather evidence or facilitate services for clients.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in case management systems.
Translate documents and communications for clients, if bilingual skills are applicable.
