JOB SUMMARY:The Housing Navigation Coordinator supports clients with locating/accessing housing and/or utilizing vouchers and other rental subsidies. This position will primarily receive referrals from Sacramento’s 211 system and support in assessingthe client’s ability to lease up and obtain housing This position will work with the SSF (Sacramento Steps Forward) Landlord Engagement Specialist to locate and find housing units across the Sacramento region. This position will support in completing rental applications, processing “problem-solving” funds, and other necessary steps to secure housing. This position will be case-carrying and will be responsible for data entry to the homeless management information system (HMIS). Low-barrier services are designed to reach disconnected LGBTQ+ transitional-aged youth, and victims of crime as the program is rooted in community building, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction models. A significant percentage of program participants have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse, homelessness, engagement with criminal justice and/or foster care systems, substance use/abuse, and/or mental health challenges.The coordinator may be asked to operate on an interwoven schedule alongside Case Managers and Housing Advocates who will work within the Morning (6:30 a.m.-3 p.m.); Swing (2:30 p.m.-11 p.m.); and PM (10:30 p.m.-7 a.m.) shifts; tobe determined by the needs of the program.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Provide support to clients referred by 211 for PSAPs and the Center’s Housing team.Establish, strengthen, and utilize community partners to assist clients with progress toward their individualized housing goals.Conduct collaboration with outside agencies to secure wrap-around services for clients, when needed.Provide, as needed, transportation to visit housing opportunities with clients.Maintaining precise and accurate documentation of client goals and needs, and case management services, including client files and service entries into appropriate program databases.Maintain a database/record of owners and landlords working with the agency.HMIS data entry of housing placements, services, and financial assessments.Track housing placements for all housed individuals and record outcomes in HMIS.Schedule and coordinate events including facilitation or co-facilitation of group activities; creation of class and workshop materials, and coordination of services provided by collaborative partners.Form and foster new and existing relationships with Property Owners and landlords (PO/LL) housing agencies.Identify available and affordable units for client residency.Survey rental market for affordable housing, and advocate for clients with prospective landlords and maintain lists of prospective PO/LL’s for future placements and expansion of housing resources.Support activities conducted by collaborative partners, including maintaining appropriate relationships with partner program staff and basic understanding of referral/resource networks for transitional age youth.Ability to adequately manage case load by providing resources and services to meet client housing goals.Coordinate with team viewing and rental interviews with clients. Assist with overcoming rental obstacles such as background checks, credit history, etc.Process landlord leasing packet including establishing a right to payment and ownership.Complete and process housing applications including review of submitted documentation for accuracy and eligibility.Conduct Housing Quality Standards Inspections and ensure HUD Housing Quality standards are met in accordance with HUD program expectations (as applicable).Monitor progress of each member through their housing search and develop strategies that result in successful placement.Provide written reports and other administrative data entry as required by the Director of Housing Services.Actively participate as a member of the program team, including provision of back up for other program staff as needed.Commitment to serve the most vulnerable community members: transgender, gender non-conforming people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, people with disabilities, people who are marginally housed or experiencing homelessness, unemployed and underemployed people, and low-income people.Exhibits continuous accountability, transparency, compassion, and humility.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking and facilitation.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, varying degrees of fluency in English, immigration status, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.Must be available for a specific schedule, occasional evenings and weekend hours as needed, or flexible schedule to include regular evening and weekend hours.Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned.REQURIEMENTS:Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Four years of housing experience with direct service work to people experiencing homelessness and/or personal lived experience of homelessness may be substituted for higher education.Familiar understanding of HMIS, the CoC and the CES. Knowledge of other systems (DHA, BHS, SHRA, etc.) a plus.Proficiency in English with strong written and oral communication skills is required; Bilingual proficiency in one or more other languages is preferred.Proficiency in Landlord and Tenant Rights; and standard lease agreementsProficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, database systems, and social media tools.Access to reliable transportation or reliable automobile transportation with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required.This position may on occasion be required to drive rented vehicles.A deep passion for working with people experiencing homelessness (prior lived experience a plus)Offer of employment may be contingent on satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.Employees must be legally permitted to work in the United States.The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is a drug-free workplace, employees may be subject to a drug test.As an organization, we fully support COVID-19 vaccinations.
