Position Title: Fish Technician
Location: Sacramento County, California
Position Overview:
The Fish Technician will play a vital role in the daily operations of our aquaculture facility, primarily focused on the care and management of white sturgeon. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance, harvesting, monitoring water quality, and supporting spawning activities, ensuring the health and productivity of our fish stock.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Daily Operations (45%)
- Perform general site maintenance to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Oversee the loading and operation of feeding and production systems, ensuring optimal performance.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of existing aquaculture systems.
- Collaborate in the construction and implementation of new projects within the facility.
-White sturgeon technicians are frequently the first individuals to spot unusual behavior and health issues with our fish, as well as mechanical problems with the systems. If any such issues are observed it should be reported to the lead white sturgeon technician and the supervisor.
2. Harvesting and Grading (30%)
- Efficiently harvest, move, and grade white sturgeon, ensuring adherence to company standards and best practices.
3. Water Quality Monitoring (5%)
- Regularly monitor water quality and health parameters to maintain optimal conditions for fish growth and wellbeing.
4. Spawning Assistance (5%)
- Support the spawning process of white sturgeon, including:
- Collecting and cutting eggs
- Handling broodstock
- Assisting in the hatching of fry
5. Grounds Maintenance (10%)
- Maintain the facility's grounds by cutting grass, cleaning grates, and ensuring the site is tidy and presentable.
6. Alarm Response (5%)
- Respond to alarms during normal operational hours and as necessary outside of regular hours to ensure the safety and integrity of the facility
Working Conditions:
- This position requires working in an outdoor environment, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Must be available for emergency response outside of normal hours as needed.
-Must be able to lift 50 lbs and handle large fish
-This position will require working a tuesday-saturday shift and holidays as needed directed by management.
